One Futures Bet A Day For NFL Countdown: Longest Field Goal

Longest FG Made by any Player Regular Season Over 62.5 Yards (-120 on Bet365)

We will continue our NFL futures bets and the approach we took in the bets from a couple of days ago by wagering on any player to hit a set mark. This particular one is for any of the kickers in the league. I know it is sometimes relying on kickers.

However, one thing you can rely on is they are going to attempt some long-field goals. For this bet, we’re taking the longest field goal to be made by any player during the regular season to be over 62.5 yards.

Who will win it for us?

One player to keep an eye on this year is Detroit Lions’ kicker Jake Bates. This guy regularly hit 60+ yard field goals in the Lions’ home dome when he was playing for the Michigan Panthers in the UFL last year. He’s one of the more capable players to be able to hit this over 62.5 field goal mark. Another is Dallas Cowboys’ kicker Brandon Aubrey.

Like Jake Bates, Aubrey came from the spring league and was very impressive last year. In fact, he just hit a 66-yard in preseason. When the coaches believe in their kickers and know they can make this, they’re going to try it. You’ll also have situations where it’s the end of the half, and a missed kick doesn’t affect much, so they try a longer-than-normal field goal.

Last year’s longest field goal was actually just under this mark. Matt Prater hit a 62-yarder. There was also a 62-yarder in 2022 by Harrison Butker and in 2021, again by Prater. The last time somebody hit over this mark in the regular season was in 2021. Justin Tucker hit a 66-yarder that year.

However, with the new kickoff rule negating most touchbacks, teams will be in better field position, and I think there will be more field goal attempts. Between guys like Jake Bates, Brandon Aubrey, and veterans like Justin Tucker, it seems like the over is going to be an easy cash. It’s juiced a little at -120. However, the under is also juiced at -110. It’s a slightly favorite according to Bet365’s odds, and I think it’s a favorite for a reason.
