MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – June 6
Seattle Mariners vs. Detroit Tigers
First Pitch – 1:10 pm EST
Comerica Park – Detroit, MI
Broadcast – MLB TV
Kicking off the NRFI plays for the weekend will be the Mariners coming to the plate. They’ve been struggling a bit at the plate this year. Their 4.24 runs per game puts them in the bottom third of the league and they’ve been even worse than that over the past week. It’ll be Keider Montero who tries to make things even worse for them on Saturday afternoon. Despite having some up and down looks this season, he’s posted solid numbers. He is repping a 3.69 ERA on the year and is coming off of 6.0 scoreless innings against the White Sox. He only allowed two hits in that outing and if that version of him shows up, it should be a quick three outs.
Speaking of guys who are locked in at the moment – Seattle will trot out Bryce Miller for another start on Saturday. He’s held opponents scoreless in two of his last three games and posted a 1.15 ERA in that span of time. That includes 17 strikeouts in just 15.2 innings of work. Detroit has been even worse than the Mariners at the plate lately. They rank 27th in the league and are one of just six teams that have not been able to crack the 4.00 runs per game mark. This game shouldn’t help matters.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 6: No (TBD)
Chicago White Sox vs. Philadelphia Phillies
First Pitch – 4:05 pm EST
Citizens Bank Park – Philadelphia, PA
Broadcast – MLB TV
After breaking down a couple of teams that struggle at the plate, you’re likely looking for more of the same here. You won’t find it with Chicago at the plate. The White Sox have been above average for most of the year and are surprising a lot of people. However, those numbers have taken a hit with Munetaka Murakami out of commission. That should help Andrew Painter dial us in for three outs. While his season numbers are a little shaky, he’s kept his ERA under 4.00 over his last four starts. That includes a slew of offenses better than the White Sox, so I like his chances to stay clean early here.
To close this one out, we’ll trust the arm of Sean Burke. He’s been lights out over his last three starts. He put up a 2.65 ERA in that run and has fanned 19 in 17.0 innings. Those strikeouts will help against the Phillies strikeout-heavy top of the order. However, even if it doesn’t, it’s not like Philadelphia is setting the world on fire. They rank 29th in runs per game with 3.90 – only ahead of the Padres. That should give Burke the confidence he needs to get us the cash.
