The NFL countdown is on! We have our first preseason action today, and it gives us all a taste of the NFL action we’ve been waiting for. Through August I’ll be releasing one NFL Futures bet a day. NFL Countdown: One NFL Futures Bet A Day – Day One
Mahomes to throw 40+ TDs in the regular season (+500 on draft kings)
It’s the first day of our NFL countdown futures bets, so we might as well start with a big one. This can be found on Draft Kings under “Team Specials” in the NFL section. Once you’re on team specials, navigate to the Kansas City Chiefs. There, you can find the best “Patrick Mahomes to Throw 40+ Passing Touchdowns in the Regular Season” at +500.
Let me tell you why this one intrigues me so much. The beat reporters have already mentioned that the team has playfully talked to Mahomes about not airing it out last year. Jokes like that and the Raiders bringing a Kermit the frog doll to camp only feed Mahomes’ fire. He’s a phenomenal player and one of the best of our generation.
The Chiefs added a lot of field-stretching speed this offseason by bringing in Hollywood Brown and drafting Xavier Worthy. With those two stretching the outside of the field, the middle should be open for Travis Kelce and Rashee Rice (barring suspension) all day long. Mahomes and this offense are set up to throw the ball a lot.
While 40 passing touchdowns may seem like a big number, Mahomes has gone over this in two of his six seasons starting. In his first season, starting in 2018, he threw for 50, and in 2022, he threw for 41.
He also got close in two other seasons when he threw for 37 in 2021 and 38 in 2020. This is the best receiving corp Mahomes has had, and at +500, it’s hard not to take this futures bet.
