One Futures Bet A Day For NFL Countdown: NFC Number 1 Seed
To Be the NFC Number 1 Seed: San Francisco 49ers (+400 on FanDuel)
Yesterday, on the NFL futures bet for the day, I took the Kansas City Chiefs to get the number one seed in the AFC. For today’s future bet, we are going to flip to the other side and look at the NFC’s number one seed. Now I know if your team doesn’t make the playoffs or isn’t one of the top teams, you want to see new teams in each year. That doesn’t always happen when good programs have been built, like the Chiefs.
The same can be said for the 49ers, last year’s Super Bowl counterparts. They’re currently +400 to get the number one seed, and I love this play even more than the Chiefs.
Who’s In Their Way
Before I make a case for the 49ers, let’s take a look at their competition for the number one seed. In the East, the Cowboys won last year but will now enter with one of the worst offensive lines they’ve had in the past handful of years and a weaker running back room.
The Eagles will likely take that division, but with a new offensive coordinator, despite all the weapons, I expect them to have some hiccups to start as well.
It’s a tough division, and 11-6 feels like the ceiling in it. Despite a weaker conference, I’m not considering anybody in the NFC South to have the best record in the NFC.
There are a couple of other teams that could threaten the 49ers. One is the Detroit Lions, who finished with the same record as the 49ers last year.
However, I think the NFC North division got better overall this offseason, and it’s going to be a tougher road in the NFC North. They’ll still likely win the division, but they may not be able to steal as many wins. Plus, they now have the first-place schedule.
There’s a lot of hype with the Packers as well, but as a Bear fan, I’m obligated to say I’m not sold. One other sneaky team is the LA Rams. However, their success will be dependent on Matt Stafford staying healthy and their defense surviving life after Aaron Donald.
Can They Be Stopped?
That brings us back to the 49ers. The offense hasn’t changed much, except by adding Ricky Pearsall as another weapon. Everything on the offensive side should be about the same as long as Trent Williams and Brandon Aiyuk show up to play despite wanting new contracts. The defense should also be just as strong.
I wouldn’t rule out a trade to bring in another defensive line piece before the trade deadline. However, they are still one of the best-built rosters in the NFC, and the system Kyle Shanahan has put in place is rock-solid. If the 49ers are healthy, it’s hard to argue they aren’t in the top two teams of the NFL, let alone the NFC.
The 49ers’ schedule looks easier than last year’s, in my opinion. Aside from their division, they have games against the Jets, Vikings, Patriots, Chiefs, Cowboys, Bucs, Packers, Bills, Bears, Dolphins, and Lions. I feel confident taking them in at least seven of those games. Winning the other three will be tough, but it isn’t out of the realm of possibilities.
Unfortunately, they have to play the Bills and Dolphins on the road. However, the Cowboys and Chiefs are both home games. Regardless, they’re going to be in the mix for one of the top teams, and I like them to win the number one seed. It’s a solid NFL Futures bet, and +400 is a good payout.
