One Futures Bet A Day For NFL Countdown: Last Undefeated Team
Last Remaining Undefeated Team: Detroit Lions (+650 on DraftKings)
As a Bears fan, this kind of bet pains me to write. The Detroit Lions took the league by storm last year. Dan Campbell has built an incredible culture, and the players love him. Another person the players love is Jared Goff. After arriving from the Rams in a trade for Stafford, Goff has been accepted by teammates and has been playing at a high level.
Why it could hit
The Lions should have an improved offensive line this year. Everything else on offense should remain just as good as it was last year when they cruised to a 12-5 record. Goff’s weapons of Amon-Ra St. Brown and Sam Laporta should continue to perform at high levels. Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery also run the ball well.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Lions spent their first two draft picks taking cornerbacks. The defense should be improved from last year, which was their weak link. As much as I personally don’t want them to, Dan Campbell and the Lions have unfinished business from last year. They’ll be hungry to start piling up the wins right away.
Speaking of that, I like the way their schedule starts. They have the Rams at home to open the season. Puka is week to week right now, which could affect the Rams’ offense if he isn’t ready. The Lions then play the Bucs, also in Detroit. They hit the road next to play against the Cardinals. All three of these games feel very winnable.
Up next are the Seahawks in Detroit again. The hardest game is next, as they hit the road against Dallas. If the Lions can survive that, they have the Vikings and Titans next. Could Detroit open the season 7-0 prior to their November third showdown with the Packers? It’s theirs for the taking, and I’m not going to be the one to tell Dan Campbell they can’t do it.
