One Futures Bet A Day For NFL Countdown: broncos Win Total
Broncos Over 5.5 Wins (+100 on DraftKings)
The Denver Broncos quickly said goodbye to the Russell Wilson experiment. He was never Sean Payton’s guy, and they’ll move forward with some quarterbacks that Payton hand-picked. They are currently listing returning quarterback Jarrett Stidham as the starter and Zach Wilson as the backup.
However, I think it will be rookie Bo Nix who starts the most games, which makes them interesting in this AFC West betting preview. This is just a fundamental way of making the rookie work for the starting job.
Trust The Rookie
Bo Nix will hopefully be helped by his former college teammate Troy Franklin, whom the Broncos also drafted. However, some beat reporters have stated he is struggling in camp. He joins a receiving corps that already includes veteran Courtland Sutton and Marvin Mims. The running back room will be interesting to watch as they have once-promising Javonte Williams and Jaleel McLaughlin.
The defense has some question marks aside from cornerback Patrick Surtain. The Broncos hope third-round draft pick Jonah Elliss can help. Sean Payton has had a lot of success in the NFL and now that he has his guy at quarterback, it’s hard to think of fading him too much.
The real question will be how much Sean Payton can get out of his players. Back with the Saints, he was able to have a strong defense even when they didn’t have a star-studded lineup. Can he do that with the Broncos?
The Broncos have the eighth-easiest schedule this year, which should help their rookie quarterback and young team. Sean Payton should be able to out-gameplan enough of the competition. Last year, the Broncos had the tenth-hardest schedule. Yes, they had a different quarterback at the time. However, they still managed to win eight of their games.
This NFL future is just a trust in Sean Payton getting the job done. They play the NFC South, one of the league’s weaker divisions. The Panthers and Falcons travel to Denver while they’ll be on the road to play the Bucs and Saints. They also tend to play their division matchups well.
Last year, the Broncos held opponents to an average of sixteen points. If they can just score a little more, they should be able to match last year’s production, at the very least. Don’t overthink this one; over 5.5 wins seems like an easy number for a veteran coach.
