The Troy 2026 Preview Opens On Gerad Parker
The Troy Trojans 2026 preview opens on head coach Gerad Parker and a program on the rise. First, Parker guided the Trojans to an 8-6 finish and a 6-2 Sun Belt mark in 2025. Then Troy won the Sun Belt West and reached the conference title game before falling to James Madison. Because that run earned real credit, the guys peg Parker’s hot seat at a cool 3 out of 10. Meanwhile the deck grades the state of the program a 6 out of 10 and pointed up. From there the crew weighs whether year three finally brings a Sun Belt crown to Troy.
The 8-6 record only tells part of last year’s story. To begin, Troy went 3-1 in games decided by eight points or less, so the margins stayed razor thin. Then the Trojans dropped their bowl to Jacksonville State to close the year. Because Parker sits at a 12-14 career record, the guys stress that the next step has to be a division title held all the way through. Also the program history runs deep, so the standard in Troy sits higher than a bowl trip. Next the crew maps the exact games that decide the season.
Adam Austin Takes Over The Troy Offense
The offense has plenty of room to climb in 2026. Last season Troy ranked 123rd in total offense and 130th in rushing, so the ground game needs real work. First, new coordinator Adam Austin arrives to turn those numbers around. Then the guys dig into a unit that returns 47% of its production. Because the passing game sat 90th and scoring sat 97th, Austin has to find points from more than one spot. From there they map how the Troy offense climbs back toward the middle of the Sun Belt.
At quarterback the guys break down a real competition. Goose Crowder, a redshirt senior who transferred in from West Virginia, started seven games through injuries in 2025. Also Tucker Kilcrease returns and pushes for the job, so the room stays unsettled into the fall. Because Power Five programs raided the roster in the portal, Austin has to rebuild pieces around whoever wins the reps. First, coordinator Dontae Wright returns for year three to hold that level. Then the guys flag that only 32% of the defensive production comes back. Because the pass defense ranked 34th but the run defense sat 104th, the front has to firm up fast. From there the crew weighs whether this side of the ball slips or holds the line.
The portal math makes the rebuild interesting. First, Troy leaned on transfers to reload after Power Five raids, so plenty of new faces have to gel. Then the guys break down an incoming class ranked 84th overall with six top-300 JUCO recruits. Because safety Doug Nelson and returning defensive back Justin Powe anchor the back end, the guys like the pieces on paper. Also the Sun Belt throws explosive passing offenses at you week after week. Next the crew stresses that this group has to prove it before Troy steals extra wins.
The 2026 Sun Belt Schedule And Win Total
The 2026 slate has some real teeth to it. First, Troy opens at home against Sam Houston before hosting Alabama State, so the guys start there. Then come back-to-back road trips to Missouri and Utah State that both look tough. From there the Sun Belt grind takes over with Southern Miss, a trip to Louisiana, and a home date with ULM. Next the guys hit the road at James Madison before Louisiana Tech visits. Also the Battle for the Belt lands at South Alabama. Then Georgia Southern and Arkansas State close the year, and both games could swing the season.
Then they close it out where the betting value lives. The Troy win total sits at 6.5 games, so the guys dig into that number hard. First they weigh an 8-6 team against a schedule with two brutal road trips. Then they get into the Sun Belt odds at +800 and the +15000 College Football Playoff long shot. Because the margins ran so thin last year, they lean toward the conference title price over the win total itself. Finally they hand you the read they trust on the Trojans heading into the fall.
