This Washington Huskies 2026 preview starts with a head coach the deck feels good about. Jedd Fisch enters year three in Seattle at 15-11. The deck cools his hot seat to just 2 out of 10. First, Washington went 9-4 a season ago and pushed toward the top of the Big Ten. Then the Huskies split their tight games, going 1-1 in one-score contests. Because Fisch has the program trending up, 2026 is about chasing a College Football Playoff bid. From there, the expectations only climb.
Demond Williams Jr Leads A Rising Offense
Washington’s offense ranked 39th nationally in 2025, with scoring offense up at 18th. Head coach Jedd Fisch calls the plays himself. First, junior quarterback Demond Williams Jr returns after a strong 2025. He posted a 71.5 completion percentage with 41 total touchdowns and just 9 interceptions across 15 starts. Then the passing game sat 52nd and the run game 58th, so there is room to climb. Meanwhile Washington brings back 69 percent of its offensive production. Receiver Dezmen Roebuck, tight end Decker DeGraaf and tackle Landen Hatchett all return. Because Williams has that support, the ceiling on this offense sits high.
Ryan Walters And A Defense That Held Up
Ryan Walters runs the Washington defense, and the unit gave him plenty to like in 2025. First, the group ranked 21st nationally in total defense a season ago. Then the rushing defense finished 12th and the scoring defense landed 15th. So the front held firm against the run. Elinneus Davis returns up front, Jacob Lane anchors the linebackers and Alex McLaughlin leads the secondary. Because Washington brings back 61 percent of its defensive production, Walters keeps a proven core. From there, the pass defense at 53rd becomes the number to watch.
The Schedule, The Apple Cup And The Win Total
Washington opens with the Apple Cup against Washington State. Utah State and Eastern Washington round out the non-conference slate. First, Minnesota, USC and Iowa arrive in a demanding early Big Ten stretch. Then Purdue, Nebraska and Penn State follow before the run to the finish.
