Toledo 2026 Preview
The College Football Experience (@TCEonSGPN) on the Sports Gambling Podcast Network continues its 138 college football team preview series with the Toledo Rockets 2026 Season Preview. Pick Dundee aka (@TheColbyD) & Ryan McIntyre (@Moneyline_Mac) break down the 2026 Toledo Rockets roster and what to expect in the MAC this season. Can Mike Jacobs keep the Rockets rolling after taking over for Jason Candle? And is John Alan Richter the answer at quarterback after an injury limited him to three games in 2025?
Can new coordinator Cris Reisert lift an offense that ranked 34th nationally? Only 42 percent of that production returns. How does Jahmal Brown replace a defense that finished 2nd in the country? That unit returns no starters and just 25 percent of its production. Does a 53-commit transfer haul, headlined by quarterback Khamoni Robinson, change the math? Can Toledo survive an opener at Michigan State? Will the Rockets flip an 0-4 record in one-score games? Is the Battle of I-75 against Bowling Green still the game that defines the year? Does the road finale at Ohio swing the MAC race? And where’s the betting value on the Toledo Rockets win total, MAC odds and College Football Playoff chances? We talk it all and more on this episode of The College Football Experience.
Mike Jacobs Takes Over A Rockets Program On The Rise
This Toledo 2026 preview opens with a coaching change. Mike Jacobs takes over after Jason Candle left for UConn. The deck lists his record at 0-0 and his hot seat at 1 out of 10. First, Toledo went 8-5 a season ago. Then the close-game math turned brutal. The Rockets went 0-4 in games decided by eight points or less. From there the deck still grades the program on the rise at 8 out of 10. So Jacobs inherits a stable roster, not a teardown.

The Offense Resets Around John Alan Richter
Toledo’s offense ranked 34th nationally in total offense last season. The scoring offense landed 38th and the rushing attack 41st. First, new coordinator Cris Reisert takes over the play sheet. Then the quarterback job runs through John Alan Richter. The redshirt junior played only three games in 2025 before an injury ended his year. Also arriving is Lenoir-Rhyne transfer Khamoni Robinson to push the room. Meanwhile the Rockets brought in 53 total commits, 37 of them transfers. So Reisert has bodies to sort through with 42 percent of the offense back.
Jahmal Brown Rebuilds An Elite Defense From Scratch
Here is the twist in this Toledo 2026 preview. The 2025 defense was flat-out elite. It ranked 2nd nationally in total defense and 4th in scoring defense. The unit also finished 5th against the pass and 9th against the run. First, that group returns nobody. Toledo brings back no defensive starters and just 25 percent of its production. Then new coordinator Jahmal Brown gets the job of holding a very high standard. Meanwhile the incoming defensive class grades out around 120th nationally. So Brown has to coach up youth in a hurry.

The Schedule And The Toledo Win Total
The schedule opens on the road at Michigan State. Then Central Connecticut State, Temple and San Diego State visit the Glass Bowl. First, Toledo hits the MAC grind at Ball State. Next comes a matchup with Buffalo. Then Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan and a long road trip to Sacramento State fill the middle. After that, UMass comes to Toledo. The Battle of I-75 against Bowling Green and a road finale at Ohio close the year. So where is the betting value? The deck sets the Toledo win total at 7.5. The Rockets are +400 to win the MAC with no listed College Football Playoff number.
