College Football Week 6 Reaction Show Recap

The College Football Experience on the Sports Gambling Podcast Network continues its college football Week 6 reaction show with Pick Dundee (@TheColbyD), Ryan McIntyre (@Moneyline_Mac) and Troy Chewning going through every bet from the Tuesday kickoff to Georgia’s win at Alabama.

Did Arch Manning hand Oklahoma the Red River game? Is Iowa a real playoff threat? Can Bob Chesney turn UCLA into a power? How does West Virginia give up 50 to Arizona? Did the refs decide Georgia and Alabama? We talk it all and more on this episode of The College Football Experience.

The College Football Week 6 Reaction Opens On A Tuesday

Colby Dant calls this one of the best Saturdays in years, but the money started flowing on Tuesday night. Troy hammered Southern Miss 55-34, and that was Dundee’s number one power-rated weekday play. Then Jacksonville State came from behind to beat Kennesaw State 27-26, so the points on Kennesaw cashed anyway. Ryan McIntyre split his ticket there, because the Owls led by nine with about five minutes left and still lost. Next, FIU smothered New Mexico State 22-3, and Dundee sat at 3-0 for the week. Willie Simmons has the Panthers at 3-2 with Jax State on deck. That weekday window is worth betting every single week.

Liberty Torches The Sam Houston Ticket

Not every weekday play landed, and the losses stung. Dundee only put about 25 bucks on Missouri State, which was smart, because Western Kentucky rolled 34-13. Then came the heavy swing on Sam Houston plus 14.5, and Liberty won 35-3. Phil Longo is now 3-14 at Sam Houston, and two of those wins came against FCS teams. So the hot seat talk is fair, even with the commute excuse from year one. But South Alabama bailed out the card by beating Arkansas State 56-49. The final looks close, yet the Jaguars led by three scores. Troy Chewning (@Troychewning) also cashed the over there, as South Alabama nearly cleared 58 by itself.

UTSA minus 6.5 cashed for Dundee, though the contest number was 7.5, so the win was bittersweet. Also, the guys agree it was a lucky cover. South Florida nearly won outright, and UTSA kept settling for field goals in a second half it controlled. The line moved all week, from 6.5 up to 7.5, before closing at 5.5 with a 50.5 total. Mac grabbed 6.5 as well and called it a gut check win. Dundee expected UTSA to win by 20, so he leaves this one questioning the Roadrunners more than he did before kickoff.

Florida A&M And Louisville Make Friday Pay

Friday at noon brought a triple lock, and it came straight out of the FCS show with Chris Van Duyne of Phil Steele. Florida A&M was the play at plus 14.5, because Alabama State was without maybe the best player in the conference. Then Florida A&M won outright 28-27 in a game full of blocked kicks. Dundee and Troy both took the points without the money line, and that is the only regret. Alabama State still ran for 274 yards and threw for just 107. So the handicap was right, even if the payout could have been bigger. Next came Louisville, where Dundee had a large bet riding on the Cards.

Florida State punched first and led 14-0, and Dundee was texting NC Nick in a panic. But a Louisville goal line stand flipped the game with Florida State about to go up 21-0. The Cards then went on a 44-6 run and cruised. Mac was on Louisville too and called that stand the whole game. Dundee thinks the Cards should be favored in all but one remaining conference game, which keeps the ACC title path alive. Also on Friday, Columbia laid 1.5 at Marist and won after Marist held the lead for a good chunk of the night. You don’t fade the Ivy on a Friday night.

Wyoming Wins And Bronco Survives

Wyoming over San Jose State was the call Mac nailed. Dundee warned listeners not to go heavy on that line because it never moved, and it smelled. San Jose State squandered free points before halftime, then threw on third and inches and fourth and inches. So the Pokes won, and with Northern Illinois next, Dundee can already sketch a bowl path for them. Meanwhile Utah State won by a single point, which did not cover Dundee’s ticket of roughly 150 bucks. The Twitter crowd mocking him for backing Bronco Mendenhall was heartbroken anyway, because the win still counts. Dundee now sees Utah State as an underdog the rest of the season.

Iowa Looks Like A Playoff Problem

Iowa went into Husky Stadium and won 41-24, and it was 27-3 at halftime. Washington’s leading rusher finished with 17 yards. Dundee had the Hawkeyes in a lock battle against Mac’s Huskies, and he is buying stock. Iowa is 5-1, and the road ahead runs at Minnesota, home to Wisconsin, at Northwestern, home to Purdue, at Illinois and home to Nebraska. He thinks Iowa is favored in every one of those. Also, the passing game finally gives defenses something to fear. Troy liked the case enough to bet Iowa to make the playoff right after the pregame show.

Then there was BYU over Iowa State, 24-10, and Dundee flat out lost it. The number closed at 11.5, and Iowa State was covering for most of the game. But BYU kicked a field goal with 1:55 left and got home. The under did hit, which Dundee sprinkled. BYU surprised him by throwing for 329 yards, while Iowa State threw for just 98. So the worry is a one-dimensional offense without L.J. Martin, with Notre Dame coming to Provo next. Mac called it one of those BYU phony covers, and he says they did the same thing at TCU the week before.

Texas Chokes And West Virginia Bottoms Out

Saturday opened with a loss for Dundee on Indiana minus 7.5. Nebraska was the right side, and he admits it. But he still blames a terrible roughing the passer call that wiped out an Indiana interception around the 30. Mac called the Nebraska money line and watched the Huskers fall short against a ranked team again. Dundee is not hitting the panic button on Indiana, though the run game is the thing to circle. Troy pushed back hard, arguing Ohio State could beat Indiana by three touchdowns next week. Dundee is not buying a margin that big.

Oklahoma over Texas was the money line everyone had. Dundee called it, and Mac bet it too. Oklahoma went 2 of 13 on third and fourth down and still won, because Texas handed over a blocked punt touchdown and a pick six. Then Arch Manning threw another pick late while the Oklahoma offense was doing nothing. Dundee calls Steve Sarkisian the most overrated coach of his lifetime. Texas sits 79th in total offense, 66th in passing and 88th in rushing. So much for the best play caller in the sport.

West Virginia was the low point, at least for Mac. Arizona was laying 3.5 in Morgantown, and the Mountaineers gave up 50. Mac’s numbers tell it: 100 offensive plays, 500 yards, 300 on the ground, 36 minutes of possession and a blowout loss. He called it one of his worst misses of all time. Dundee has around $600 tied up in West Virginia and now pegs them at 5-7. But Troy and Dundee salvaged the game with player props. Fifita threw it easily, and Hawkins cleared 95.5 with 98 yards. Those two legs paid around plus 350 or plus 380.

The Locks That Cashed And The Ones That Burned

The Saturday card had plenty of green. North Carolina on the money line was a quadruple lock against a Pitt team missing its starting quarterback. Ball State cashed easily, because Northwestern should never lay 37.5 to anybody. Houston drilled Kansas State 35-16, and Dundee was on the Cougars. Then Memphis laid 13.5 in the Battle of the Bones and won by 25. Boise State minus 6.5 got a little dicey but got home against Fresno State. And Purdue was a double lock in what Dundee called the best letdown spot of the week.

The burns were real too. Charlotte plus 28.5 against North Texas was Dundee’s worst play of the week, with a first half money line on top. It was 40-10 at halftime, and he says that was his final fork on Charlotte. Arizona State minus 20.5 against Hawaii was his top lock, and he fell asleep thinking it cashed. It did not. Miami Ohio minus 5.5 was covering until UMass scored on the final play. He also lost a Florida bet at South Carolina and a blind Maryland fade, laying 33.5 or 34.5 with Ohio State.

Georgia Escapes Tuscaloosa And The Refs Take Over

The refs were the story of Saturday night. Illinois beat Michigan State 38-37 in a game Dundee thought was the worst officiated of the day, until Georgia and Alabama kicked off. Pat Fitzgerald even flipped off an official. Then in Tuscaloosa, Georgia won after replay overturned an Alabama interception with no clear proof the ball hit the ground. Dundee had zero dollars on that game and still could not explain the call. Mac thought Georgia was the better team anyway, and he ranks the Bulldogs number one. Next up is the Third Saturday in October, with Alabama heading to Neyland in fuck-you mode.
