One Futures Bet A Day For NFL Countdown: Josh Allen Interceptions
Josh Allen HIGHER than 12.5 Interceptions (Underdog Fantasy)
For today’s NFL Futures we’re going to turn to Underdog Fantasy again and look at one of the better quarterbacks in the league. That quarterback is Josh Allen, and despite being one of the best quarterbacks in the league, he is a little turnover-prone. In fact, Allen had 18 interceptions last year, beating his current higher/lower number by five!
Will the trend continue?
It wasn’t exactly just a more turnover-prone year for Josh Allen. While he had 18 interceptions last year, he’s gone over 12.5 interceptions the last three years. 2023 was his highest by far, and perhaps we’ll see some positive regression to fewer interceptions. However, Allen is a gun-slinger quarterback and gun-slingers always risk throwing picks.
In 2022 Allen threw fourteen interceptions. Despite his ability to run, the Bills and Allen throw the ball a lot. He’s been top-10 in pass attempts in the last four years since 2020. More pass attempts can always lead to more opportunities for the defense to pick the ball off. With three seasons of hitting higher than 12.5 interceptions, the number almost seems too low.
I mentioned Allen had hit this number three years in a row. That takes us back to 2021 when he threw 15 interceptions. That’s 47 interceptions in three years, roughly 15.5 a year. Allen stayed under this number the first three seasons of his career, throwing for 12 his rookie year, 9 in 2019, and 10 in 2020, when he was 21st in pass attempts.
Coach Sean McDermott is going to continue to try and press the ball down the field this season. Unfortunately for Josh Allen, but fortunate for us, that means there will be more opportunities to turn the ball over in the air. This year the Bills face some tough defenses as well. They have games against the Ravens, Jets, Texans, and Chiefs, which all have stingy defenses.
I like Josh Allen a lot and I think he’ll have a good year. However, I also think he’ll continue turning the ball over. .
