Then running back Devin Spencer returns to headline the backfield. Also back are receivers Chauncy Cobb and Hunter Summers to give Owens proven targets. Meanwhile the line keeps Wil Saxton, Mason Myers and a group that returns 52 percent of last year’s production.
Grif McCarley And A Defense That Has To Tighten Up
Grif McCarley runs the Arkansas State defense, and the deck hands him a long fix-it list. First, the unit ranked 112th nationally in total defense a year ago. Then the pass defense finished 114th and the rush defense sat 94th, the softest marks on the roster. Because that group returns just 45 percent of its production, McCarley leans on the portal to reload. Brandon Barnes, Brandon Greil and AG McGhee return in the secondary to steady the back end. So the depth is thin, but a scoring defense at 85th gives him a base to build on.
