Minnesota Vikings Preview

Few teams have as many big question marks and range of potential as the Minnesota Vikings. Start the quarterback or the guy they drafted to be the guy? Can Kevin O’Connell keep his quarterback whispering magic rolling, or will it be time to hit reset in Minneapolis? Our 32 NFL team previews keep rolling along. We’ve reached our first team from the NFC North, one of the toughest divisions in all of football. Let’s see if we can predict the Vikings’ future in this 2026 Minnesota Vikings preview.

After a stellar year in 2024 with Sam Darnold, the Vikings decided he wouldn’t cut it if they wanted to win a Super Bowl, and let him go to Seattle. Where he, well, you know. Won the Super Bowl. JJ McCarthy was finally healthy and ready to take over the starting job in Minnesota. However, NINE emerged and struggled to adjust to the NFL game. McCarthy only started two games before injuries struck again. The team turned to Carson Wentz for the next five games before McCarthy returned in Week 9. After four more starts, it was back to the sideline, this time with a concussion. Max Brosmer started a horrendous game in Week 13.

Continued Quarterback Drama

The saga wasn’t over. After two more starts, NINE once again was injured. Max Brosmer came in for the Week 17 start, and when McCarthy was hurt, yet again, in Week 18, Brosmer finished the game. Somehow, by the grace of Kevin O’Connell’s voodoo. This team finished 9-8. Imagine their record if the quarterback wasn’t made of paper? In the off-season, the team quickly signed quarterback Kyler Murray, who was released from the Arizona Cardinals. Leaving everyone to wonder who the starting quarterback will be in 2026.

The team had a few veterans retire. Safety Harrison Smith, fullback CJ Ham, and center Ryan Kelly all hung up their jerseys for a final time. The team also re-signed Carson Wentz, giving them plenty of depth at the quarterback position. This is a team once again set up for success with great coaching on both sides of the ball, and stout offensive and defensive stars. The biggest question, of course, is Murray or McCarthy? In my opinion, if this team doesn’t start Kyler Murray, they are making a grave mistake. – Cody Zeeb (@Husker_Zeeb)

Cody’s Minnesota Vikings Best Bet

Over 8.5 Wins (-105)

Kevin O’Connell won nine games last season by starting JJ McCarthy, Carson Wentz, and Max Brosmer. He restored Sam Darnold to his potential and sent him off to win a Super Bowl. Zero chance I am fading this man and his abilities. Bringing Kyler Murray in was a great move. Murray is a very solid quarterback who has been successful at this level and needed a change of scenery. Giving him Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison will be invaluable. In Kevin O’Connell, I trust, and it’s that simple. He’s hit this number in three of four seasons, even with bad quarterback play. He’ll get it done playing a third-place schedule in 2026.
