New York Jets Preview
NFL football will be here before we know it! As the summer heat of July rolls on, so do our team-by-team previews of all 32 NFL franchises. With the Cardinals and Dolphins done, it’s time to turn our attention to another AFC East team. The New York Jets. The team has made some bold and interesting moves in the off-season. Let’s dive in and take a look at the 2026 New York Jets preview.
Jets head coach Aaron Glen is back for a second season after going just 3-14 in year one. He’s overhauled his coaching staff after a tough season. Tanner Engstrand was replaced at offensive coordinator by Frank Reich. On the defensive side of the ball, Steve Wilkes departed and was replaced by Brian Duker.
Moves at Quarterback
Prior to the 2025 NFL season, the Jets handed quarterback Justin Fields a two year 40 million dollar contract. But after starting the year 2-7, they opted to bench Fields and finished the season splitting starts between Tyrod Taylor and Brady Cook. Fields was cut and is now a member of the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Jets finally wrote back to their 2013 second-round pick, Geno Smith. Trading for him from Las Vegas, they signed him to a one-year $ 3.3 million deal. Smith spent his first three seasons with the Jets before stints with the Giants and Chargers. He had his biggest success with the Seahawks from 2019-2024. Last season, he led the Las Vegas Raiders to the worst record in the NFL.
Young Stars Get Paid and Drafted
In a stunning move, they extended running back Breece Hall, who had previously demanded a trade. Hall got a three-year, $ 43.5 million extension. The Jets had a stockpile of early draft picks and made three first-round selections. At pick No. 2, they got Texas Tech edge David Bailey. They brought in Oregon’s star tight end Kenyon Sadiq at pick 16, and then turned to wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr out of Indiana to round out their first-round picks.
The Jets, much like the Arizona Cardinals, seem to have a lot of strong offensive talent pieces lined up. They are just missing that star quarterback. Can Geno get back to the shades of his Seattle days? Or do the Jets throw another season down the drain in hopes of hitting next season’s quarterback lottery? – Cody Zeeb (@Husker_Zeeb)
Cody’s 2026 New York Jets Best Bet
Garrett Wilson Over 950.5 Receiving Yards (-115)
We don’t know how good the Jets will be in 2026, although they likely won’t be that good. One thing we do know: Garrett Wilson is a good wide receiver. He dealt with injury last year, and in a rare smart move by the Jets. They shut him down early and allowed him to heal up. In his three previous years, with a variety of horrid quarterbacks, Wilson still delivered with over 1,000 yards each year.
It’s a pretty low bar, but Geno Smith may just be the best quarterback Wilson has had yet. The Jets will likely be trailing in most of their games in 2026. That’s going to force the offense to need to throw the ball, and Wilson is going to get his like he has every other season.
