Indianapolis Colts Preview

The Indianapolis Colts started off as one of the hottest and best teams in all of football in 2025. They crashed and burned spectacularly, partially due to injury. A fold that left them out of the playoff race ultimately. What does 2026 look like for this Indianapolis Colts squad? Let’s glance back at what unfolded in 2025 and what to expect in their 2026 Indianapolis Colts Preview.

2025 Recap

The big question heading into 2025 was: Anthony Richardson or Daniel Jones at quarterback for the club? They chose Daniel Jones, and absolutely nailed that selection. Jones looked like an early MVP candidate, and Jonathan Taylor was out of this world on the ground. They went 8-2 for the first time since Peyton Manning was calling signals for them in 2009. One common misnomer from this 2025 Colts team. Everyone remembers Daniel Jones getting injured and the season being derailed, but it didn’t completely happen that way.

After going 8-2 with an overtime win over the Falcons, they went into their Week 11 bye. After playing a pretty soft schedule those first 10 weeks, they dropped back-to-back games to the Chiefs and Texans. They were losing to Jacksonville when Daniel Jones suffered his Achilles injury. The spiral had already started; they just needed Phillip Rivers and Riley Leonard to finish it out for them. Tyler Warren quickly became a tight end name to get used to. The Penn State rookie was a very bright spot on the team’s offense. Before the Jones injury, the team went all in on the trade market, grabbing Sauce Gardner to anchor their defensive backfield.

Off-season Moves

The team decided to keep both their GM Chris Ballard, as well as head coach Shane Steichen. Daniel Jones was awarded a new two-year deal worth 88 million, and up to 100 million, rewarding his play early in the season, but also giving them an out if he doesn’t work. The Colts opted to sign Alec Pierce to a four year 114 million extension, and promptly traded Michael Pittman to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In free agency, defense was the name of the game for the Colts. Edge Arden Key and Michael Clemons, defensive tackles Derrick Nnadi and Jerry Tillery, along with defensive backs Cam Taylor-Britt, Jonathan Owens, and Nasir Adderley headlined their signings. It was the same story in the NFL Draft. Their first-round pick was part of the Sauce Gardner deal, but in the second round they went linebacker CJ Allen, and in the third round safety AJ Haulcy. – Cody Zeeb (@Husker_Zeeb)

Cody’s Indianapolis Colts Best Bet

Under 7.5 Wins (+105)

Sorry Colts fans, I’m not buying it. Six of those eight wins to open the season came against teams that did not make the playoffs. The wheels had begun to fall off; it was just covered up by Daniel Jones’ injury. A late injury, by the way. Jones is expected to be ready for Week 1, but likely not training camp. Jones also looked great in 2022, suffered an injury in 2023, and came back to lead the Giants to just two wins in 10 games. They beefed up their defense, and that should be a strong unit. The offense has pieces with Jonathan Taylor and Tyler Warren. But the team expects Alec Pierce to suddenly be a #1 receiver? He’s got little support around him, and this offense will struggle big time. Colts miss the playoffs for a sixth straight year and win fewer than eight games.
