Dallas Cowboys 2025 Recap

Goodbye July, hello football months! The long wait for football is just about over. All 32 teams have reported to camp, and the Hall-of-Fame game is just days away. Here at SGPN, football previews for College are happening nonstop, and we’re midway through previewing all 32 NFL teams. Next up, America’s team. Let’s dive into the 2026 Dallas Cowboys preview.

2025 was a tough one for the Dallas Cowboys. Of course, if you are a Cowboys fan, it’s really nothing new. Expectations meet disappointment, rinse and repeat. The Brian Schottenheimer era got off to a sluggish 7-9-1 start. Defense was a struggle, almost non-existent for this Cowboys team. The offense was a bright spot for the team. Dak Prescott turned in a solid season staying healthy; it just wasn’t enough. Ceedee Lamb continued to prove he’s one of the best in the game, and George Pickens had a strong season as Lamb’s running mate. Brandon Aubrey continued to change the way kickers are viewed as an invaluable asset to the team.

Dallas Cowboys Preview

Dak Prescott has a new slogan for the Cowboys this season called GOTI, per The Athletic’s Jon Machota. “Greatest offense there is.” Nothing like setting those expectations high in Dallas once again. The team put the non-exclusive franchise tag on wide receiver George Pickens, who signed the tag, but did not reach a long-term deal before the NFL’s July deadline. They also re-signed Javonte Williams, who quietly had a strong season for the Cowboys in 2025.

The team’s main offseason focus, however, was defense. They ranked 32nd in points allowed 30.1 per game, and 32nd in total defense in 2025. A new franchise record for points allowed was set at 511 over the course of the 18-week season. They had multiple first-round picks after the Micah Parsons trade. They used both to address that side of the ball with safety Caleb Downs of Ohio State. Then they went with edge rusher Malachi Lawrence from UCF. – Cody Zeeb (@Husker_Zeeb)

Cody’s Dallas Cowboys Best Bet

Javonte Williams Over 900.5 Rushing Yards (-115)

Javonte Williams is absolutely the quietest part of this “GOTI” offense. But he’s a very important part of it. Let’s not forget Williams was a great prospect for the Broncos. He suffered a catastrophic knee injury right out of the gate. He returned quicker than expected, but performed poorly for the Broncos, who then gave up on him. Now, years removed from that injury, he’s proving to be exactly who we thought he was. A bellcow running back capable of carrying the load. He did just that last season, playing in 16 games and racking up over 1,200 yards.

The Cowboys recognized his contributions. Instead of a big deal for George Pickens, the team signed Williams to a three year 24 million deal after he played his one year three million “prove it” deal. Williams has little to no competition in the backfield. A lot of teams have split backfields, not in Dallas. Williams is the clear-cut #1. This offense might not be the greatest ever, but it’ll be good. If their defense is slightly better and they don’t have to throw constantly to keep up, Williams should get even more work in 2026.
