Sonny Dykes Keeps A Cool Seat In Fort Worth
This TCU 2026 preview starts with a head coach who has earned his footing. Sonny Dykes carries a 36-17 record in Fort Worth. The deck rates his hot seat a cool 3 out of 10. First, TCU went 9-4 a season ago. Then Dykes stacked back-to-back nine-win seasons in the Big 12. Also, he owns an 11-5 mark against Power Five schools from Texas. Because that resume buys room, the deck grades the program a 7 out of 10. Meanwhile the staff changed offensive coordinators this winter. Next, the roster has to replace its starting quarterback.
Jaden Craig And A New-Look Offense
TCU’s offense ranked 27th nationally in total offense in 2025. The passing game sat 9th, but the ground game finished 100th. First, Gordon Sammis takes over as the new offensive coordinator. He inherits a unit that returns 44 percent of its production. Then the quarterback job opened up after Josh Hoover moved on. Harvard transfer Jaden Craig arrives to compete for the room. Also, the class runs 33 players deep at 21 recruits and 12 transfers. It adds receiver Jeremy Scott and guard Noah McKinney up front. Meanwhile Jordan Dwyer returns as a proven target on the outside. Because the run game ranked 100th, Cade Bennett and Ben Taylor-Whitfield have to steady the line.
Andy Avalos And A Defense That Needs More
Andy Avalos runs a TCU defense that has to tighten up in 2026. First, the unit ranked 73rd in total defense a season ago. The pass defense sank all the way to 117th. Then the run defense held up better at 43rd. Because the group returns 58 percent of its production, Avalos has a base to build on. Also, Zach Chapman, Markis Deal and Ansel Din-Mbuh anchor the line. That front could rank among the Big 12’s better units. Meanwhile Vernon Glover and Jamel Johnson return to steady the secondary. From there, edge Carter Buck headlines the incoming defensive class.
The Schedule, Amon G. Carter And The Win Total
TCU opens the 2026 season against North Carolina in Dublin, Ireland. First, Grambling, Arkansas State and UCF fill out the non-conference slate. Then BYU, Baylor and West Virginia set the tone in Big 12 play. Also, Kansas, Arizona, Kansas State and Utah follow before Texas Tech. Because the Iron Skillet against SMU sits off the schedule, Amon G. Carter loses a rivalry date. What does a Saturday feel like inside that stadium when the Horned Frogs get rolling? The deck sets the TCU win total at 7.5. Next, the Frogs sit at plus 2800 to win the Big 12. Then they land at plus 1300 to make the College Football Playoff.
