The Scotty Walden Hot Seat

First they walk through how a 2-10 season pushed the temperature this high. Then they weigh whether Walden gets a fair shake given the roster he inherited and the rebuild still in front of him. So the stakes are simple and stark. Another rough year and this staff could be coaching for its job by November.
There is a case for patience, and the guys make it. Walden is a young, aggressive coach who has won at lower levels, and UTEP is a hard place to win quickly. After that they get into the schedule reality, because the jump to the Mountain West raises the degree of difficulty right away. The guys lay out what a reasonable step forward actually looks like. And they flag the exact games that will tell you whether the arrow is finally pointing up. A hot seat like this rarely cools on its own.
The Offense And EJ Colson
The offense has nowhere to go but up. UTEP finished near the bottom of the country in nearly every category last season, so the bar is low and the guys do not sugarcoat it. First they break down new quarterback EJ Colson, a transfer who threw for more than 2,000 yards and a 70 percent completion rate a year ago. Then they get into how his accuracy could steady a unit that had almost no rhythm in 2025. The pieces are raw, but the guys see a real path to improvement.

This is the number that defines the season. UTEP returns zero offensive starters and just 27 percent of its production, one of the most extreme roster turnovers in the entire country. The big picture change is the league itself. UTEP is a brand new member of the Mountain West, and the guys break down what that jump means for scheduling, travel, and expectations. First they go through the early slate, which does the roster no favors. Then they map the middle of the season, where a young team either finds itself or falls apart. Then they close it out where it counts. The guys stack the win total against a rebuilding roster and a tougher league, and they lock in their lean.
