Atlanta Falcons Preview

We continue to push through the summer heat as football season approaches. With that being said, the Atlanta Falcons are up next, and they have a new look to them this season. What direction will a new coach send them, and who starts at quarterback? Plenty of questions still to be answered in Atlanta. Let’s dive into this 2026 Atlanta Falcons preview.

The Atlanta Falcons went on quite the roller coaster ride in 2025. They started the season strong, beating the Buffalo Bills early in the year, then had a slump mid-year, and finished on a four-game winning streak. The Falcons ended the year 8-9 for the second straight year, and just missed the playoffs.

Falcons End Of Season Run

The end of the season wasn’t enough to save head coach Raheem Morris’ job; he was relieved of his duties hours after their Week 18 victory over the New Orleans Saints. As a result, Kevin Stefanski, the two-time NFL Coach of the Year who was let go from the Cleveland Browns, was quickly hired to replace Morris.

The Falcons’ offensive weapons once again shined in 2025, Bijan Robinson remaining one of the top running backs in the league. Injuries hampered Atlanta in 2025, and we did not see a ton of the full offense. For example, Drake London missed five games, when he was on the field he consistently turned in great days. Drake London proved to be a solid #1 option. On the other hand, tight end Kyle Pitts had a monster season, highlighted by the 166-yard, three-touchdown game, delivering an early Christmas gift to fantasy football managers in their league playoffs. Because of this career year, Pitts was rewarded with a three-year, $ 54 million deal after being franchise tagged in the offseason.

Falcons Quarterback Battle

Atlanta’s quarterback, Michael Penix, tore his ACL in late November, the third time in his football career he’s been plagued by the same injury (first time on his right knee). Kirk Cousins finished out the year and led the team on the 4-0 streak to end the year. Penix is aiming to be ready for Week 1, and is already participating in select drills with the team. Although Atlanta went out and signed Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in free agency. Tagovailoa appears to have the slight edge in the quarterback battle, and in my opinion will be the starter come Week 1.

Other offseason moves for the Falcons included bringing back legendary franchise quarterback Matt Ryan as their President of Football. Brian Robinson Jr was brought in to replace the departing Tyler Allgeier as the backup to Bijan Robinson. The Falcons focused heavily on their defensive unit, grabbing star defensive back AJ Terrell’s brother Avieon, who plays the same position, with their first pick in the NFL Draft. Additionally the Atlanta Falcons also signed Azeez Ojulari and Divine Deablo. – Cody Zeeb (@Husker_Zeeb<&lt;/a>/a>)

Atlanta Falcons Over 7.5 Wins (+125)

This one is pretty simple for me. Above all the chaos, the Falcons have won eight games in back-to-back seasons. Their star power on offense remains with Robinson, London, and Pitts. Additionally, they’ve had a massive upgrade at head coach; Kevin Stefanski did more with less in Cleveland, and it deserves to be respected.</p>

Additionally I believe they’ve made an upgrade at quarterb

ack. Heading into a make or break year, Michael Penix was a fine option, but that’s all. Tua Tagovailoa has had his run of ups and downs, but when he’s hitting those ups, he can be excellent. Tua led the NFL in passing yards in 2023. We’ve seen quarterbacks who have talent go to new situations and thrive, like Super Bowl champion Sam Darnold. Tua is a solid quarterback, with a new home and surrounded by the stars Atlanta has. It’s an easy over on the Falcons for me.
