You never know what you’ll get out of this team. Is this their year? They are next up as we continue to cover all 32 NFL team previews. Let’s dive in and take a look at the 2026 San Francisco 49ers preview.

San Francisco 49ers Preview

Most of the time, when a team finishes third in their division, it wasn’t a very good season. However, the NFC West was absolutely loaded in 2025. The Seattle Seahawks won the division and the Super Bowl. They’d be the eventual downfall of the 49ers as well. After going 12-5 in the regular season, the first team in history to do so and finish third in their division. They went on the road in the Wild Card Round and defeated the reigning Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles.

Unfortunately, against the Seahawks in Seattle, it was just too tough. Seattle blew them out on their way to winning it all. They went 12-5 on the year despite quarterback Brock Purdy missing significant time. George Kittle and Nick Bosa also missed a few games apiece. Mac Jones, the former New England Patriots starter, kept the season afloat for the team while Purdy recovered. Christian McCaffrey, on the other hand, was healthy, something he hasn’t always been able to do, and had a strong season.

The team made moves in the offseason, luring Mike Evans away from his home in Tampa Bay on a three-year deal worth up to 60.4 million. Christian Kirk was brought in as a veteran piece in the receiver room, and Wide receiver Deebo Samuel was reunited with his old team after a stint in Washington with the Commanders. With Brandon Aiyuk on the reserve/left squad list, there’s little hope he plays in San Francisco, and questions about whether he plays anywhere at all. Ricky Pearsall will also miss the year after undergoing knee surgery to fix a PCL tear.

Trent Williams resigned with the team, giving them the continued veteran leadership on the offensive line at left tackle. In the Draft, the team traded down twice after originally slated to pick at #27. First trading with the Dolphins to #30, then the Jets to #33. They added yet another wide receiver; De’Zhaun Stribling from Ole Miss was their first selection at pick #33. Romello Height was selected in the third round to bring extra pass rush, and Kaelon Black was brought in also in the third to add running back depth after losing Brian Robinson. – Cody Zeeb (@Husker_Zeeb)

Over 10.5 Wins (+120)

This team can easily go over 10.5 wins in 2026. They won 12 last year, coming home third in the division, missing their quarterback and other stars for significant amounts of time. Now you can’t always trust this team to be healthy; however, for the most part they are right now. Mac Jones is still there, and if he needs to step in, he can do it. Their schedule is middle of the road since they play a third-place schedule. They have had at least 10 wins in four of the last five seasons. It’s a good veteran team with great coaching. Easy over.
