Ryan assumed Sean would be on Baltimore, and he was right. Sean’s read is that the Ravens got cute last week, the kind of week two letdown you see against a weaker opponent, and that a loss has them locked back in. He also pointed out that in these international games the favorite is usually just the better team.
Most of Sean’s case is about Dallas’ defense. He noted Jayden Daniels ran for 69 yards on seven carries against the Cowboys while playing only the first half, and said Dallas leads the league in rushing yards allowed to a quarterback. Now it gets Lamar Jackson. Ryan agreed the Cowboys give up space, said this offense does well when teams leave room, and expects Lamar to pick up 10 yards at a time when he feels like it.
Ryan also brought up the surface. There has been plenty of reporting on the grass in Rio, with local soccer players complaining after heavy rain, and he asked which team a sloppy field helps. Both said Baltimore, since the Ravens can win this by controlling the line of scrimmage. Sean added that the Cowboys lean on their kicker, and 60-yard field goals on a slick surface won’t be easy. Both teams are flying down on Thursday.
