Sean’s first contribution was a warning. The Bucs have failed to cover 11 straight games going back to last season, which he said ties the ’83-’84 Oilers for the longest ATS losing streak across seasons in the Super Bowl era. If Minnesota covers, he told Ryan, they’re watching gambling history. He also admitted this is the kind of game where you feel dumb either way. Either you laid points with Kyler Murray on the road right after a concussion, or you backed a Bucs team whose offensive line has been poor and whose quarterback, in Sean’s words, has looked bad. Baker missed open receivers in week two, the running game hasn’t shown up, and now he gets a Brian Flores defense.
Ryan kept returning to the price. Minnesota went 2-0 with Carson Wentz under center, and the switch to Kyler is what turned Tampa into a home dog. He isn’t sure that upgrade is worth the flip. He added that the book on Baker is not to blitz him, and that Baker has been good against blitz-heavy schemes, which is the optimistic read against Flores. Ryan also expects this to be a game where the sharper money leans Minnesota.
In the end they both came back to the Bucs, and neither wants to pay for Kyler and that offense until they see it work after the concussion. Ryan noted he’s on all the 0-2 teams this week, and he’s betting on Baker to watch the film, see the throws he missed, and fix it one more time.
