Ryan’s problem with Washington is what Mariota can’t do. He called him an efficient backup who gives you no explosion and nothing downfield, and a Seattle defense that doesn’t have to respect the deep ball can crowd the line and squeeze the field. People touting Mariota for a decent day aren’t getting him to buy it.
Sean was all over the Seahawks from the start. He compared it to last season’s trip to Washington, when Seattle was a big road favorite that looked scary on paper and won 38-14 with both starting quarterbacks playing. He had road numbers for this coaching staff too: 17-2 straight up and 14-4-1 against the spread, and 6-0 ATS for a West Coast team in a 1:00 PM Eastern kick. Daniels running around was the thing that made him like the Commanders last week, and without it he doesn’t see where their offense comes from.
The rest of the matchup piles on. Ryan pointed to injuries on the Commanders offensive line, a bad week for that against this front. Sean expects JSN to feast on a Washington secondary he doesn’t think can cover anybody. Ryan did flag the risk: everyone is betting Seattle, the Seahawks are on a road back-to-back, and Washington has a game overseas next. It didn’t move either of them off the seven.
