The NFL season is just around the corner, and it’s time to get prepped for all 32 teams and what to expect this season from each. Up next in our 32 NFL team previews is the Miami Dolphins. They are a new-look team in 2026. From head coach to quarterback, wide receivers and beyond. Let’s dive into this Miami Dolphins preview and what to expect from this AFC East team in 2026.
It was a tough 2025 season for the Dolphins, who finished the year 7-10. They decided to clean house after another disappointing season. Mike McDaniel was let go from the head coaching position, and the team made the huge decision to release Tua Tagovailoa, their one-time franchise quarterback.
It wasn’t a cheap divorce, costing the Dolphins 99.2 million dollars against the cap. 67.4 million this year and 31.8 million against the 2027 salary cap. They weren’t done yet; they traded star wide receiver Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos in return for the 30th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, among other things. Bradley Chubb, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Jack Jones, Cole Strange, and Rasul Douglas were among other players who left the team this off-season.
The Dolphins turned to the Green Bay Packers to fill out their needs. Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley was named the 12th head coach in Dolphins history. Prior to his stint with the Packers, Hafley was the head coach of the Boston College Eagles from 2020-2023. While the Dolphins were plucking from the Packers, they snagged the biggest free agent quarterback on the market, the Packers’ backup Malik Willis. Willis, a former third-round draft pick of the Tennessee Titans, impressed in 11 game appearances over the last two seasons for the Packers. It earned him a three year 67.5 million contract, 45 million of which is guaranteed.
Additionally the Dolphins made the most of the NFL Draft with 13 selections overall, six of which were in the first three rounds. They started with offensive tackle Kayden Proctor of Alabama. Cornerback Chris Johnson of San Diego State was their second first-round selection. The team also extended star running back De’Von Achane. Their offseason moves have left many baffled. Are they rebuilding? Or trying to contend right away? The books believe it’s a full rebuild, as the Arizona Cardinals have a lower win total than the Dolphins. – Cody Zeeb (@Husker_Zeeb)
Cody’s 2026 Miami Dolphins Best Bet
De’Von Achane Over 400.5 Receiving Yards (-115)
De’Von Achane will remain a major part, if not the biggest part, of this Miami Dolphins offense in 2026. They’ve re-signed him, and Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle are officially gone. That means Achane is going to have to step up. His rushing ability, as well as Malik Willis’ rushing ability, is going to help open up the passing game for Achane. Bobby Slowik, the Dolphins’ offensive coordinator, is going to have to come up with ways to get the ball in Achane’s hands and let him do the work.
Additionally Achane has been productive through the air since joining the league in 2023. He eased through injury in ‘23 with 27 catches for almost 200 yards. He followed it up with 78 catches for 592 yards and 67 receptions for 488 yards last season. Get the ball in your best player’s hands, plain and simple.
