NFL Picks Preseason Week 1 Recap
Sean Green (@SeanTGreen) and Ryan Kramer (@KramerCentric) hand out their NFL preseason Week 1 picks, running the full Thursday-through-Saturday slate with spreads, totals and moneylines. Additionally they lock in their best bets and price a little-dog moneyline parlay to close it out.
It starts where the football did, back at the Hall of Fame Game. Haynes King and Carson Beck both looked the part in Canton, and the guys came away split on why. Kramer liked Beck’s footwork and how calm he stayed when the rush got home. Sean couldn’t stop watching King run for his life and make it work anyway. Fun tape, and it sets the lens for the whole slate: who’s coaching to win a game that doesn’t count, and which backup is actually going to move the ball.
The Coaches, The Backups And The Dogs
That lens does most of the handicapping this time of year. There are fade coaches, guys like Dan Quinn and Zac Taylor who treat August like a walkthrough, and there are bet-on coaches like Sean Payton who still want the win. Kramer leaned unders on the joint-practice games, where two teams who spent the week hitting in controlled reps tend to grind out a stalemate. And when nothing else jumps out, go dogs. Small ones. The number matters more than the name in games nobody is trying to win.
The card runs long. Sean grabbed the Lions catching 6.5 in Cincinnati while Kramer laid it with the Bengals, the rare spot they split. They doubled up on the Steelers getting 2.5 at home, stamped the Broncos minus 3.5 as a straight lock behind Payton, and took the Bears plus 2.5 as a live home dog against Cleveland’s quarterback mess. The Giants moneyline at +124 got a hard co-sign too, mostly on a gaudy preseason coaching record and a heavy dose of Jameis Winston.
From there it stays on brand. Both guys rode the Cardinals plus 1.5 in Vegas off the Carson Beck hype and a team that already has a Hall of Fame Game rep in the bank. They fired the Dolphins minus 3.5 in Washington on the Dan Quinn auto-fade, a coach sitting at 7-19 straight up who does not pretend to care about August. And the Bucs plus 5.5 at the Jets is really a bet on Jalen Daniels, the preseason cult hero Sean has been backing at silly prices for two years running. Same guy, same window, one more year.
The Locks And Little Dog On The NFL Preseason Week 1 Picks
They closed with three locks and a dog, same as last season. The Giants getting points headlined it, the Titans laying their number made the cut, and a chalk lay rounded it out. Then came the fun one: a three-team little-dog moneyline parlay of the Giants, Bears and Bucs that priced out around +1400. Almost fourteen to one on three dogs nobody respects. There is a pick’em prop card in here too, with Anthony Richardson under 88.5 passing yards and Joey Slye over 1.5 extra points. Ninety minutes on preseason Week 1, and if that isn’t a reason to subscribe, nothing is.
