Green Bay walks into this one in a spot worth pausing on: the second leg of a road back-to-back, with a Thursday night game sitting on the other side of it. That is the setup for Packers at Jets, Sunday, September 20 at 1:00 PM ET in East Rutherford, NJ, with Green Bay at GB -3.5 and the total at 44.5. Both hosts took the road favorite anyway on the NFL Picks Week 2 episode.

Packers vs Jets Odds

Green Bay is a 3.5-point road favorite and the total is 44.5. On air, Sean figured the number holds near 3.5 into the weekend and might tick to 4, and he said he wants it under 4 before he plays the favorite. At 3.5 he had no problem with it.

Our Picks

The whole segment ran through Week 1, and neither host believed much of what he saw. The guys called the Packers loss in Minnesota a Fugazi result, noting Green Bay put up 6.3 yards per play to the Vikings 3.9 and still lost by 17, with a pile of penalties muddying it further. Their read was to fade both sides of that game, winner and loser. Same logic on the other sideline: the Jets looked clean against Tennessee, and the show was not ready to credit that to the Jets rather than to how bad Tennessee might be.

Geno Smith sat at the center of it. The guys agreed he played a perfect game against the Titans, and Sean said he will happily fade the idea of a second one back to back. Sean also liked what the Packers pass rush showed with 15 pressures, higher than he expected without Micah Parsons, plus the explosive plays Green Bay generated. His framing was to fade a bad team off a great win and a better team off a horrible loss.

Ryan came at it from the board and the sideline. He expects the public on the Jets and the professional money on the Packers, which is the shape of game he wants to be on the right side of, and he gave LaFleur the clear coaching advantage over Aaron Glenn. He also said plainly that he is not a Jordan Love guy, pointing to what he believed were twice as many turnover-worthy plays as anyone else in Week 1. The pick is in spite of the quarterback, not because of him.

There is real risk here and the show said so. Sean flagged the Jets defensive line, which got after Tennessee, against a Packers offensive line he is not sure is any better, weather in the forecast that a road favorite does not want, and the fact that per the guys Green Bay has not won a game in 283 days going back to the Parsons injury.
