This one split the room. Ryan and Colby laid it with South Carolina, while Sean took Mississippi State and the points.
Colby made the case for the Gamecocks at home. He argued the 3.5 is a trap number meant to bait you onto the dog, and said to lay it. His bigger point was scheme familiarity: he noted South Carolina’s offensive staff comes off the same coaching tree Mississippi State runs, so the Gamecocks not only know how to mimic it, they run the same stuff in practice, which should help them prep for Mississippi State quarterback Kamario Taylor. He also liked LaNorris Sellers and the South Carolina offense to move the ball.
Sean was not ready to fade Taylor. He said he was blown away watching Mississippi State walk into a hostile environment at Minnesota and dismantle the Gophers, and he is not betting against that quarterback anytime soon, especially getting points. He pointed to the ground game behind Taylor and an underrated Mississippi State defense as reasons the dog stays in it, and he expects a close game.
Ryan circled it as a pros-versus-Joes spot and landed on South Carolina with Colby. The guys also flagged look-ahead angles on both sides, with Mississippi State facing Missouri and South Carolina drawing Alabama on the road the following week.
