The whole segment ran on one idea: fade Maryland and Mike Locksley when James Franklin is on the other sideline. Colby Dant (@thecolbyd) called it his worst bet ever, taking Maryland against Franklin back in 2019 and watching them get shut out 59-0. He said he’s never doing it again and locked the Hokies. The guys leaned on how one-sided that series has been over the years, and while they gave a nod to Locksley’s strong September record, they figured a lot of that came against light early competition.
There was also the crowd angle. Colby expects a heavy Hokies contingent making the trip, somewhere in the 30 to 40 percent range, enough that SECU Stadium could feel closer to a road home game for Virginia Tech. The guys noted the Hokies haven’t really been tested yet and nearly got backdoored by Old Dominion, but nobody wavered off the pick.
