Sean opened by granting the obvious argument for Los Angeles. It’s an 0-2 team against a 2-0 team, and the Chargers are desperate. Then he said he watched both of their games and couldn’t do it, calling them the sloppiest team in the league with penalties everywhere. Ryan agreed the offense has looked out of sync. Sean added a piece of history: the Chargers are only the second team ever to drop back-to-back home games by double digits to opponents that won under 20 percent of their games the prior season. The first was the 1926 Racine Tornadoes, who played once more and folded.
What keeps Sean off the Chargers is the schedule. Buffalo played on Thursday, and he sees that mini bye as a chance to clean up the one part of the Bills that hasn’t worked, the defense.
Ryan thinks that defense is still a problem and that Los Angeles will get some things right on offense. With a full touchdown available, he said he has to take it. He likes the collision of a team riding high against one at its lowest, a spot Sean conceded is a classic buy low, sell high. Ryan also noted the Chargers have been better on the road than at home over the last couple of years, and that their head coach is 14-4 against the spread when he has less rest than his opponent. He admitted it isn’t one of his favorite picks. The Bills do have the Patriots on deck, which both of them brought up.
