Sean opened by asking whether the market had adjusted enough after the Giants lost their starter for the season on Monday night. Ryan wasn’t buying the adjustment, and his reasons ran past the quarterback room. He still doesn’t rate Cam Ward. He thinks Tennessee’s result last week flattered them, pointing to a long interception return in the Eagles game, and he expects the bump teams tend to get the first time a backup starts.
Sean admitted his first instinct was the Giants too. What turned him was the spot for the backup: a first start on a short week, as a favorite, which he said is not a situation you want to play into. He had a trend on backups making a first start on short rest over the last decade, and it was ugly both straight up and against the spread. He was clear he doesn’t like the Titans. He just can’t lay points with that quarterback.
Ryan mentioned a chance of rain, and they read it in opposite directions. Sean sees a reckless quarterback with a slippery ball handing Tennessee a big play. Ryan sees a Giants defense that looks better against Cam Ward than it has so far, even with Brian Burns set to miss time, and a big takeaway going New York’s way.
