Ryan was at the Rams’ win over the Giants and came away unconvinced. The Giants kept forcing turnovers and three-and-outs, but their offense couldn’t do anything to take advantage. Ryan’s view is that with any offensive continuity, New York could have put up 13 or 16 points, and then 28-6 doesn’t look like a blowout. He also thinks the Giants’ problem was really Davante Adams against their secondary, and that a Sean Payton offense with Bo Nix throwing will be harder to handle than the Giants were.
Sean lined up the schedule. The Rams went to Australia, came back for a Monday night game, and now play on a short week at elevation, which he called a tough spot for an old team that went easy in the preseason. He thinks veteran teams often use September to work things out and that the Rams’ best football is still a few weeks off. He also cited the Broncos at 37-19 ATS as home underdogs since 1991, and said Denver is especially good in that role early in the season and in prime time.
A couple of worries came up. Ryan is concerned that the Broncos’ running back room is banged up. He also doesn’t expect Puka to play for the Rams, and noted they have been slow to share any news on him. Sean liked that Nix looked more mobile in week two and said the simple bootleg game keeps working, and Ryan wants Nix on the first touchdown card. Ryan’s warning is that if the Rams win, it will be because the Broncos go back to week one and forget how to tackle. Sean called that game an outlier and liked Denver at home for a second straight week.
