Ryan said he wanted the Bears a week ago, before this number grew. He called it a dangerous look-ahead spot for Philadelphia: a second straight road game against a third-string quarterback, with the Rams on deck. He thinks the Eagles’ offense looked bad until Jalen Hurts took over, and he says the run game still isn’t working. Then he pointed out that Keenum is 3-0 against Vic Fangio defenses and asked Sean to comment. Sean predicted it would be 3-1 by Monday night. He brought up Keenum’s footwork and reminded everyone the Eagles destroyed him in the NFC Championship in 2017.
Sean’s case is about the Eagles’ defense. Philadelphia is 2-0 without forcing a turnover, and he thinks that changes against Keenum. He expects Chicago to be a popular public underdog, and he understands why, but he says this Eagles team has real chemistry even with the offense not in rhythm yet. He likes Hurts to show up and thinks DeVonta Smith will do damage against the Bears’ secondary. He added that you couldn’t watch Keenum’s low-energy press conference and still take the Bears.
Ryan’s main argument was never about Fangio, even though that’s the part Sean kept poking at. He thinks Chicago should be able to run the ball and Philadelphia should have trouble doing the same, and he doesn’t trust offensive coordinator Sean Mannion to get the Eagles into good plays early. The argument over DeVonta Smith went several rounds. Sean pointed to 10 catches for 117 yards and a touchdown. Ryan said it came in clusters, asked how much of it came on hurry-up drives at the end of halves, and credited Hurts for throwing out the script. Sean’s last word was “We’re gonna win and cover.”
