Colby Dant’s pick for Oregon rests on the defense: the Ducks’ line should contain an Ohio State run game that looked good against USC, and there are too many questions about the Buckeyes right now. - Colby Dant (@TheColbyD): Oregon +7.5
The segment opened with a joke that Ohio State lives rent-free in Oregon’s head, followed by an admission that the USC loss made the Buckeyes hard to read. The Ohio State case was the spread: a number of seven and a half looked like one you are supposed to lay.
Colby went the other way. He said Ohio State has to prove it to him and that Oregon has a defensive line that should handle what the Buckeyes did on the ground against USC. He also likes Oregon’s defense better than USC’s, and his proof was that Oregon beat USC at USC. That drew pushback, since you cannot run the transitive property like that.
The quarterback question stayed in the mix. Colby wants to see whether Ohio State’s young quarterback can be efficient. The Oregon side added that it is hard to trust that offense to get loose at this number, called the Ducks’ defense a little underrated and pointed to Oregon winning and covering against Northwestern after Northwestern led early.
The guys also argued about the stakes. Colby reminded everyone that one of Oregon’s losses came to Oklahoma State in the non-conference slate, so the Ducks are very much alive for the Big Ten championship. The Ohio State side was not in on this Oregon team and said a loss here would knock the Ducks out of contention.
