Conway, SC gets a reunion game on Thursday, September 24 at 4:30 PM PT / 7:30 PM ET, when Liberty and its head coach, the man who used to run Coastal Carolina, show up at Brooks Stadium. The guys played Liberty -2.5 on the College Football Picks Week 4 episode, and all three of them landed on the road favorite.

Colby will be in the building for this one, hosting a TCE meetup at Brooks, and he did most of the talking. His faith in Liberty is not built on what they’ve shown so far. They cost him in week one against JMU, he thinks they probably should have lost to FCS Gardner-Webb, and he’s still sitting on futures from a program that has let him down for two years running. Then they blew out Ball State. Add a coach who is, in Colby’s words, familiar with the lay of the land, and he’s calling it a money play.
He gave Coastal its due. The new head coach married Bobby Petrino’s daughter, Petrino’s son is running the offense, and the freshman quarterback is a baller by Colby’s account: 373 yards and three touchdowns when Coastal nearly knocked off West Virginia, then 250 and two against Delaware. The problem is that Coastal was shut out in the second half against Delaware, and Colby isn’t sure how fast a roster this new comes together.
One of the guys summed up his own pick as following the money. Liberty’s roster is the better one, a scoreless second half against Delaware is a red flag, and he’d rather hold his nose on a road favorite than trust Coastal as a home dog.
Ryan went last. He flagged early bet splits that look like they’re setting up a pros-versus-Joes game, plus wind and a chance of rain in Conway, and wondered aloud whether the JMU team Liberty opened against is simply good after it went to San Diego State for a late kick and won. Then he joined the other two on Liberty.
