Pittsburgh Steelers Preview

It’s a glory days Green Bay Packers reunion at quarterback and head coach this season in Pittsburgh for the Steelers. The team has hired only their fourth head coach since 1969, when Chuck Noll was hired. The 2026 Pittsburgh Steelers preview is up next as we continue to look at all 32 NFL teams ahead of the season.

Aaron Rodgers is back for one final ride. Or so he says. The 42-year-old took his time deciding in the off-season if he wanted to play one more year, and he stated earlier this year there is “zero chance” he’s back in 2027. Rodgers will be paired up with Mike McCarthy as his head coach once again in 2026. Rodgers and McCarthy were together for 13 seasons in Green Bay from 2006-2018, where they won Super Bowl XLV together.

The biggest piece of all this, Mike Tomlin resigned after 19 seasons with the Steelers. As mentioned before, the Steelers don’t change their head coach often. After Chuck Noll was hired in 1969, he and Bill Cowher were the only two coaches before Tomlin was hired in 2007. In 19 seasons, Tomlin never had a losing year. The longest streak in NFL history. Before his resignation, Tomlin was the longest tenured head coach across all four major sports in North America.

2025 Recap & Off-Season Moves

2025 was another Steelers season that was right on the line. 10-7 was good enough to win the AFC North and make the playoffs. But the team once again was blown out (30-6 by the Texans) with an early exit. Rodgers had a good season, but showed his age at times. TJ Watt continued his domination on the defensive side of the ball. The team made some more big splashes in the off-season. DK Metcalf was brought in last season, and the team traded for Michael Pittman this off-season to bolster Rodgers’ weapons in the receiving game. Rico Dowdell was signed to replace the departing Kenneth Gainwell.

In the NFL Draft, the team focused both on helping Aaron Rodgers and the offense now, while also looking at the future and the post-Rodgers era. The team grabbed a big offensive tackle out of Max Iheanachor, out of Arizona State, in the first round, and followed him up with Germie Bernard, a wide receiver from Alabama, in the second round. They looked to the future with Penn State’s quarterback Drew Allar as one of three picks in the third round, which also included guard Gennings Dunker from Iowa. – Cody Zeeb (@Husker_Zeeb)

Cody’s Pittsburgh Steelers Best Bet

Aaron Rodgers Over 19.5 Touchdown Passes (-115)

I know this feels like a scary bet. We all watched Aaron Rodgers last season, and it didn’t seem that great. But don’t forget, the old man led this team to 10 wins, threw for over 3,300 yards, and still tossed 24 touchdowns. Now, the team has added Michael Pittman in addition to DK Metcalf, who is already a possession-type receiver.

19.5 is an extremely low number for Rodgers. Since becoming a starting quarterback in 2008, only three times has he not thrown for at least 24 touchdowns. Those were all seasons where he started seven or fewer games. This Steelers offense will still move the ball; you don’t have to worry about Aaron running it in. And few people like attention and stats more than Rodgers. If he can toss a little pass to Metcalf or Pittman, or his 6-foot-7-inch tight end Darnell Washington. He’ll do it.
