A head coach who takes over his own play calling usually picks his spot, and the guys think DeMeco Ryans picked a soft one. That is why both of them laid the points with Houston in Texans vs Titans, Sunday, October 11 at 1:00 PM ET in Nashville, TN, as the Texans were 7.5-point favorites with a total of 37 when the guys taped on October 7. Texans vs Titans Odds
Houston was the road favorite: the Texans were 7.5-point favorites with a total of 37 when the guys taped on October 7.
Our Picks
- Ryan Kramer (@KramerCentric): Texans -7.5
- Sean Green (@SeanTGreen): Texans -7.5
Sean admitted he hates laying seven and a half with a road division favorite. He did it anyway. The show noted Houston is 0-4 straight up and 0-4 against the spread, and Sean called this the ultimate get-right spot. His take on Ryans calling plays was the strongest part of the argument: these coaches aren’t idiots, and if you were ever going to take over the play calling, this Titans offense is exactly the one you would want to see first. He compared it to another head coach who took over the play calling right before a matchup that set his offense up to look great.
Ryan read the move differently, as a sign Ryans feels his seat getting hot, and the two went back and forth on whether he could miss the playoffs and keep his job. They landed in the same place on the game. Ryan said the side came to him clearly as soon as he saw the number, and the play-calling news only sealed it. The guys also spent a while on Cam Ward, who Ryan said looks horrible. Sean doesn’t expect a benching, figuring that would put the Tennessee coaching staff’s jobs on the line too.
There was a warning label. Houston heads to London to face the Jaguars the following week, and Ryan pointed out that this is historically a big number for the Texans to lay in Tennessee. Houston has won six of the last seven in the series, per Sean, but Ryan countered that it hasn’t covered a number like this in a lot of those. Sean’s verdict for the Titans was blunt: bad on both sides of the football. Lay it.
