The college football season rolls into Week 8. It still feels like Week 1 was a few days ago. We’ve got another big, juicy slate of games to dive into for another week of Underdog Fantasy College Football Pick’em entries. There are a bunch of passing yards totals, but we’ve also got a passing attempts total that you need to jump on.
Underdog Fantasy College Football Week 8 Higher/Lower Plays
We also have a receiving yards total that could be a mortal lock to go higher and a rushing yards total that you may not have known about. Check out this week’s picks and build your entry for Underdog Fantasy College Football Pick’em and let it ride!
Penn State at Ohio State: Drew Allar Higher 27.5 Passing Attempts
This is one of the easiest plays on the board this week. Penn State quarterback has played four games against schools from Power 5 conferences this year. Allar has thrown the ball more than 27 times in each of them.
The only games that Allar has been under 27.5 passing attempts this year have been against Delaware and Massachusetts. Penn State scored 63 points in each of those games, and Allar spent most of the second half with his pads off in both.
Allar will likely keep his pads on for the entire game against Ohio State on Saturday, and he will likely need to throw in the second half. Allar should go higher than 27.5 passing attempts, and this play should be included in your Underdog Fantasy College Football Pick’em entry.
Georgia Tech vs. Boston College: Haynes King Higher 262.5 passing yards
Boston College enters Week 8 51st in the nation in passing yards allowed per game. Their pass defense is more than a little fraudulent. The Eagles have faced Army, Holy Cross, Northern Illinois, and Virginia. None of those offenses have lit it up through the air.
Boston College did stand up against Florida State in a rivalry game and limited Jordan Travis. However, they got absolutely roasted by Louisville’s Jack Plummer the next week.
Haynes King has thrown for 263 or more yards in four of his six starts this year. His only misses came on the road against Miami and Wake Forest. King can rack up yards, and the BC pass defense isn’t nearly as capable as it looks on paper.
King should find plenty of space in a mediocre Boston College pass defense on Saturday. Look to go higher on his passing yards total in your Underdog Fantasy College football Pick’em entry.
Missouri vs. South Carolina: Brady Cook Higher 282.5 passing yards
Either Brady Cook is due for a massive let down, or the books are way off on this passing yards total.
Cook has gone over 283 passing yards in four out of seven starts this year. His misses were last week against a stout Kentucky defense and the first two games of the season against South Dakota and MTSU. The Tigers blew out South Dakota, but the game against the Blue Raiders was fairly close. Since those first two starts, Cook has gone over 300 yards in each of his next four.
Cook gets the South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday. The Cocks are 132nd in passing yards allowed this year and have averaged 337.4 passing yards against this year. Based on the way South Carolina has struggled and how capable Cook has been, he may clear this total by halftime.
The only concern is that the Missouri Tigers get up by so much that they stop throwing late. As long as this is within three or four scores, Cook should have little trouble going higher than his listed total. Make sure this is included in your entry this week.
Arizona State at Washington: Elijhah Badger Higher 58.5 receiving yards
Elijhah Badger has only been held under 59 receiving yards in two out of six games this year. He was suspended for the first half of a Week 1 game against Southern Utah and only managed 19 yards on three catches. Fresno State limited Badger to 26 yards on three catches in a game that saw the Sun Devils get shutout.
Badger is the top receiving option on Arizona State’s offense and should receive enough targets to get over the number. He’s also quick enough to get over the total with just a few catches.
The Washington Huskies enter Week 8 ranked 102nd in passing yards allowed per game. The Huskies have averaged 259.0 passing yards against this year. Their average is a bit skewed since they’ve played a few high-powered offenses this year, but teams are still able to find space against their pass defense.
Huskies quarterback Michael Penix, Jr. should have little trouble lighting up the Arizona State defense. The Sun Devils will likely need to throw to stay in this game. They seem to have settled on Trenton Bourguet as their quarterback, and he knows to look for Badger.
Look to go higher on Badger receiving yards in your Underdog Fantasy College Football Pick’em entry in Week 8.
Nebraska vs. Northwestern: Heinrich Haarberg Higher 53.5 rushing yards
Heinrich Haarberg not only has a name that always looks like it’s misspelled, but he also runs all over the place. Since taking over the starting role from Jeff Sims, Haarberg has rushed for more than 54 yards in three out of four starts. That includes 82 yards against Illinois and 157 (!) yards against Louisiana Tech.
The only defense that stopped the Kearney Komet so far? The Michigan Wolverines limited Haarberg to -2 yards on nine carries. Haarberg should have an easier time against the Northwestern Wildcats rush defense.
Northwestern has averaged 174.4 rush yards against this year. That’s good for 101st in the FBS. Riley Leonard went for 97 yards against the Wildcats. Rutgers’ Gavin Wimsatt and Minnesota’s Athan Kaliakmanis were both able to average over eight yards per carry against the Wildcats. However, they didn’t rack up impressive totals.
Feeding Haarberg is part of the Nebraska offense. He should find plenty of room to room against the Northwestern Wildcats and easily go higher than his rushing yards total. Make sure you’re going higher on the 53.5 rushing yards for Haarberg on Saturday.
