MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – June 25

Seattle Mariners vs. Pittsburgh Pirates

First Pitch – 12:35 pm EST
PNC Park – Pittsburgh, PA
Broadcast – MLB TV

We went with these two teams on Wednesday and they messed up our NRFI with three straight hits to start the game. Ironically, after those three batters, we got 22 more outs without another run crossing the board. That’s a bit more indicative as to where these offenses are currently. The Pirates have scored three or less in three of their last five games – a run that includes a three-game set at Coors Field. The Mariners haven’t scored more than three runs since June 12th (10 straight games). Despite our ill-fortunes on Wednesday, these are the types of offenses you want to fade.

Not only do we want to fade these offenses, but there are some pitchers worth tailing as well. Bubba Chandler is on the bump and he’s started to show signs of what he was last year. He has allowed two or less runs in three straight starts. In each of those starts, he’s been able to get through at least two innings scoreless.

Bryce Miller has been a maniac all season for the Mariners. He has a 1.58 ERA on the year and is striking out more than a batter an inning. In addition to that, he’s actually outplayed that ERA in his last four starts. In that span, he’s allowed just four earned runs – posting a 1.50 ERA in that stretch.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 25: No (-120)

New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox

First Pitch – 7:10 pm EST
Fenway Park – Boston, MA
Broadcast – MLB TV

Speaking of teams that are struggling with the bats a bit lately, the Yankees will be first to the plate in this one. They haven’t scored more than four runs in five straight games and have just a 2.80 runs per game average in that span. Even before that stretch, they weren’t on fire. They haven’t scored more than five in over a week. Connelly Early likely doesn’t make that easier on them. He’s rocking a 3.64 ERA on the year and has fanned at least six in four of his last five starts. That big strikeout stuff should help get him out of the first against a team with a lot of swing and miss.

Closing on this NRFI is a team that is not just struggling lately, but has been struggling all year. The Red Sox rank dead last in first inning scoring with just 0.29 runs per game. They also rank 29th in the majors in runs and are one of just four teams that come in under the 4.00 runs per game mark on the year. All they’ll need to deal with to break that is the odds-on favorite to win the AL Cy Young, Cam Schlittler. He is top ten in wins, ERA, WHIP and strikeouts.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 25: No (-125)
