Daily World Cup Best Bets – June 24th

Bosnia-Herzegovina vs. Qatar

Kickoff – 3:00 pm EST
Lumen Field – Seattle, Washington
Broadcast – FS1

A lot is already decided in terms of who is moving on and who is eliminated, but this group is fairly wide open. Both Bosnia-Herzegovina and Qatar have a chance to advance as the second seed or a lucky third place team. As a result, we’ll see the full aggression of both of these teams.

This one comes down to the ability for each team to create. Qatar has been hopeless on that front for the whole tournament. They have just 0.82 expected goals across each of their games combined. Meanwhile, the return of Edin Dzeko gave Bosnia-Herzegovina a real spark in their second game after missing the first. I expect the pressure to move on combined with his presence should be enough for them to get on the board.

Best Bets for Bosnia-Herzegovina/Qatar: Bosnia-Herzegovina -1.5 (+100) and Under 2.5 Goals (+140)

Switzerland vs. Canada

Kickoff – 3:00 pm EST
BC Place – Vancouver, Canada
Broadcast – FOX

Canada has a chance to make it out of the group stage and aren’t going to mess it up by pressing for a win. In fact, neither of these teams need a single goal in order to make the knockout stage. Switzerland is a touch more likely to press the action given that they can only win the group with a victory. Even then, the possibility of a counter strike will likely keep them playing fairly passive.

In addition to motivation being at a minimum, they have only conceded a total of three goals put together over the course of the entire tournament.

Best Bets for Switzerland/Canada: Switzerland +0.5 (-270) and Under 2.5 Goals (-140)

Morocco vs. Haiti

Kickoff – 6:00 pm EST
Mercedes-Benz Stadium – Atlanta, Georgia
Broadcast – FS1

This game sets the stage perfectly for a wild blowout. Morocco will move on from the group with a win, but has a chance to take over the group if they manage to take over the goal differential from the Brazilians. They currently trail by two, and with Brazil playing Scotland at the same time, they’ll need to bank some.

That shouldn’t be much of a problem. Haiti has had some troubles with their defense over recent history. Going back to their qualifying run, they gave up three goals to both Honduras and Costa Rica. Real Madrid’s Brahim Díaz has been a solid creator for the Moroccans and with nothing to play for, there is no reason for Haiti to sit back and wait.

Best Bets for Morocco/Haiti: Morocco -3.5 (+330) and Over 3.5 Goals (+150)

Scotland vs. Brazil

Kickoff – 6:00 pm EST
Hard Rock Stadium – Miami Gardens, Florida
Broadcast – FOX

Haiti having nothing to play for has me believing in a high scoring game – Scotland needing a point has the opposite effect here.

Just one point from Scotland should be enough to get them out of the group as a third place team. Not only that, but a 1-0 loss still keeps them in a really good spot given the goal differential. Apart from an early slip up against Morocco, they’ve been stingy on defense. Whether they’ll be able to hold off the constant attack of Vinícius Júnior and gang is certainly a question, but they should be parking the bus here.

Best Bets for Scotland/Brazil: Scotland +1.5 (-110) and Under 2.5 Goals (+100)

Czechia vs. Mexico

Kickoff – 9:00 pm EST
Estadio Banorte – Mexico City, Mexico
Broadcast – FOX

Mexico managed to clinch the group by virtue of a win during their second match and various other results in Group A. That’s not to say they’re going to lay down for Czechia, who needs a big result to move on. Playing at home, they are likely to play for pride here. However, there is also no reason for them to sit on their hands as they can play freely and aggressively with no worries. The style of play that I expect should result in a high scoring game.

That type of game favors Czechia, who played fast and loose in wild ones all through qualifying. It would not surprise me to see them score an upset on foreign soil with everything on the line.

Best Bets for Czechia/Mexico: Czechia ML (+270) and Over 2.5 Goals (-105)

South Africa vs. South Korea

Kickoff – 9:00 pm EST
Estadio BBVA – Guadalupe, Mexico
Broadcast – FS1

The loss to Mexico in matchday two has South Korea needing a result here. Luckily for them, South Africa hasn’t looked all that great in this tournament. While they picked up a draw with Czechia, they didn’t have much skill in creating in the game. They haven’t created a single big chance all tournament and I wouldn’t expect them to here either.

While they have had less success than I expected, I like the pressure Son Heung-Min brings. He should guide them to a win here and a second place finish in the group.

Best Bets for South Africa/South Korea: South Korea ML (-150) and Over 2.5 Goals (+100)
