MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – June 22
Texas Rangers vs. Miami Marlins
First Pitch – 6:40 pm EST
loanDepot park – Miami, FL
Broadcast – MLB TV
Texas gets first ups in this one and they’ve been bad at the plate all year. Their 4.01 runs per game has them ranked 27th in the majors. Looking to keep that trend going is Tyler Phillips, who was recently converted to a starter for Miami. In the five starts, he’s given them a clean first inning in three of them, with a rough start against the Phillies as the outlier. Despite that rough start, his ERA is just 3.10 on the year and we’ve seen his strikeout numbers peaking lately.
Trying to close this NRFI out for us will be Kumar Rocker. You have to like the way the Vanderbilt product has looked lately. Although the Twins hit him hard in his last start, in the six starts prior to that he was lights out. In that span of six games, he put up a 2.16 ERA and gave up more than five hits just once. That should do him well against a middle of the pack Marlins squad, who was held to 12 runs in a series with the struggling Giants.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 22: No (TBD)
Houston Astros vs. Toronto Blue Jays
First Pitch – 7:07 pm EST
Rogers Centre – Toronto, ON
Broadcast – ESPN Unlimited
Our second NRFI will give us a pair of guys who are just getting their feet wet on the season.
Hunter Brown is first, and this will be just his fourth start this year. However, he’s looked sensational in the first three of them. He’s allowed just two earned runs in 16.1 innings and fanned 24 batters in the process. He’s yet to strike out less than seven in a start. With a Toronto line up that is 28th in the majors in first inning scoring, that success should continue.
The next pitcher has seen even less action this year. Shane Bieber is making his first start in 2026 after returning from elbow inflammation. He looked solid in his rehab work this year, especially toward the end. His fastball touched mid-90s, which shows us he’s about back to his old self. Houston’s bats have been cold and it should allow Bieber to have a warm welcome.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 22: No (TBD)
