A Heavyweight contender showdown to close out the Matchroom Boxing “Fight Camp” in England is featured prominently on this week’s edition of the Big Fight Weekend podcast.
Host, T. J. Rives his back with his guests to get insight on all the action that will be taking place on the back lawn of Matchroom HQ in suburban London, as well as, the “PBC on Fox” show in Los Angeles and the ESPN Top Rank Boxing fight card to take place in the Las Vegas “bubble” also on Saturday.
T.J.’s joined first by his colleague live from England, David Payne. David runs his own website www.boxingwriter.co.uk and has great inside of historical perspective on the sport. T.J. and David talk about the upcoming main event Heavyweight showdown between WBC number one contender, England’s Dillian Whyte (above) and former Russian IBF World Heavyweight champion, Alexander Povetkin.
The winner of this fight is very much back in the Heavyweight championship picture particularly for a shot potentially in 2021 against WBC champ, Tyson Fury.
Up next on the podcast is a fun segment with predictions, involving a “whiz kid” from South Florida who has a knack for picking games and fights, correctly. Zach Hirsch known as, “Mystic Zach” jumps on the show from IPickWins.com.
Zach’s father is a prominent former boxing promoter and manager of fighters and he has been around the sport is entire upbringing. Zach will give his prediction on what will happen with White – Povetkin for Saturday.
The podcast closes with Marquis Johns, senior writer for BigFightWeekend.com, jumping aboard for his comments and prediction on the White-Povetkin main event in England. Marquis is also intrigued by the co-feature fight, which has women’s Undisputed Lightweight Champion, unbeaten Katie Taylor of Ireland, in a rematch against Delphine Persoon. Taylor and Persoon fought a close fight at Madison Square Garden last June one by Taylor.
Marquis also weighs in on the Premier Boxing Champions Card on Fox Saturday night where “Showtime” Shawn Porter, former WBC World Welterweight champion of the world, will take on little-known, but unbeaten German, Sebastian Formella, in the main event. Marquis is also intrigued by a couple of fights on the undercard in Los Angeles.
And, he also has thoughts on the Top Rank show, which has a Light Heavyweight contender elimination fight as the main event to be shown on ESPN+ app.
