MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – June 26

New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox

First Pitch – 7:10 pm EST
Fenway Park – Boston, MA
Broadcast – ESPN Unlimited

While we whiffed on this matchup on Thursday, the game was largely what we thought it would be – a pitchers’ duel. The starters threw a combined 11.0 innings and allowed just two earned runs. It feels like we can expect similar action out of these bats on Friday. The Red Sox still rank 29th in scoring and are the worst team in the majors in the first inning. Meanwhile, a three-run performance from the Yankees on Thursday makes it a whole week since they’ve scored five runs in a game.

In addition to the struggling bats, we get another great pitching matchup here. Payton Tolle is first on the bump and he’s sporting a 3.08 ERA on the year. His start against the Yankees earlier this year saw him go 6.0 innings and strike out 11. Will Warren will be his counterpart for this one. He’s allowed two or less runs in five of his last seven starts. Not only that, but he hasn’t allowed more than three runs in a start since May 6th. With as bad as these offenses have been, these two arms should cruise.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 26: No (-130)

Athletics vs. Los Angeles Angels

First Pitch – 9:38 pm EST
Angel Stadium – Anaheim, CA
Broadcast – MLB TV

The top of the first features Walbert Urena, who has been a fun surprise for the Angels. He enters action on Friday with just a 2.41 ERA and 64 strikeouts in 67.1 innings. More importantly, he’s hot right now. He’s thrown scoreless starts in two of his last three chances, which includes 5.0 scoreless against this Athletics team last time out. He struck out six in that start and didn’t ever really find himself in trouble.

Closing out the NRFI will be JT Ginn. He’s held opponents to two or less runs in seven of his last nine games. That run has seen him put up a 2.52 ERA and strike out 50 in 53.1 innings. Those strikeouts will be key for him here – especially since he’s had the Angels number when it comes to swing and miss stuff. He’s fanned 15 over two starts against them this year (13.1 innings).

NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 26: No (-125)
