The Raiders make the trip to East Rutherford, NJ as a road underdog, and the Jets are the ones laying the points. Kickoff is Sunday, November 1 at 1:00 PM ET. When the guys taped on October 28, New York was a 1.5-point favorite with a total of 46, and both hosts took Las Vegas. Their reasoning is in the NFL Picks Week 8 episode.
Raiders vs Jets Odds
When the guys taped on October 28, the Jets were 1.5-point favorites over the Raiders with a total of 46. Ryan read the money line on air at Raiders +100 and Jets -120.
Our Picks
- Ryan Kramer (@KramerCentric): Raiders +1.5
- Sean Green (@SeanTGreen): Raiders +1.5
Ryan opened by pointing out the Raiders are a public dog catching a point and a half on the road, and that gave him pause. He wondered whether this is another season where Kubiak starts hot and cools off. He also brought up Kirk Cousins talking about the reality of the NFL with a first-round rookie sitting behind him, though nothing sounds imminent. The Jets are not a clean fade either. Ryan called them a bit of a dumpster fire and said he respects the idea that Aaron Glenn could be the first coach fired.
Sean was not on board with the Raiders this season and said so. They started hot, then lost four straight. He pointed out that they played competitive football against both the Chiefs and the Bills. His bigger problem was the other sideline. Sean has Aaron Glenn as the worst coach in the NFL right now, citing the two-minute drills and the clock management, and he cited a 6-10-1 ATS mark for Glenn after a loss, plus a 14-24-1 ATS record for the Jets as a favorite. He still rates Kubiak as the better head coach.
The matchup argument went to the passing game. Sean noted that Greg Dulcich went 5 for 86 against this Jets defense last week, and he likes Cousins to take advantage with Las Vegas’s tight ends. Ryan’s final tiebreaker was the Raiders pass rush against the Jets’ offense, and he said, “Give me the dog.” He had fully expected to be taking the Jets in this game.
The sharp side came up late. Sean said a well-known sharp who gives out very few plays likes the Jets on the money line, and his answer was no thank you. The guys also talked about the trade deadline, which Sean put around November 10. Las Vegas plays the Jets and then the Niners before it, and Sean said an 0-2 stretch could turn them into sellers. Sean also called the Raiders a great teaser leg.
