Our Picks
- Ryan Kramer (@KramerCentric): Patriots -7
- Sean Green (@SeanTGreen): Dolphins +7
The bad part for Ryan was the road back-to-back for New England down in South Florida. He still felt he had to take the Patriots. He pointed to trends showing the Patriots do well when laying more than a field goal, and to a Dolphins defense he thinks hands the Patriots quarterback a chance to throw deep early and often. He also liked the Patriots against a Miami team coming off a bye and a win over the Jets.
Sean came at it from the other side. Miami has been a house of horrors for the Patriots through the years, and Sean added that the Dolphins have won eight of the last 11, a historical trend Ryan said does not apply to this Dolphins team. The Thursday rest did tip him toward New England for a moment, but he said he just loves fading this Patriots team. Ryan agreed with that instinct and said this was not the game to do it. His argument was that the Patriots defense should bottle up the run and force turnovers, so New England wouldn’t need many points. A 17-7 final, he said, wins the game, and so does 17-6 or 17-9.
Sean pushed back with how the Dolphins looked in a similar spot against the Bengals, then dropped the Patriots. Maybe he was dreaming of a Wildcat debut, he admitted, but this Dolphins team has a little fight in it, so he took Miami at +7. Ryan reminded him the Patriots are 5-0 against the spread after a loss, and told him he was getting a little emotional about it.
