Colby made the stakes case first. In his words the winner will likely play UTSA for the conference championship, and if Boise slips up that puts the winner in the driver’s seat for the playoff. Then he turned on Florida Atlantic. They got lucky, he said, that Rice missed a game-winning field goal, and Rice still lost 51-49 after piling up 608 yards of offense, 500 of them on the ground.

That run game was the thread. Colby called FAU’s defense clearly trash against the run, while North Texas is efficient through the air and also running well. He defended North Texas’s head coach, the former West Virginia coach, and said he thinks he has found something there. FAU, he said, looks like an outlier that got lucky last week, so he was laying the 13.5.

Another host backed him with the numbers. North Texas averages 5.2 yards per carry, FAU’s run defense is ranked 137th, and the table joked that there are only 138 teams in the FBS. They also noted FAU is coming off a big win it maybe should not have had, and that North Texas is just going to run it down their throat.
