The guys called it a spot you can’t look past, and Ryan opened by saying he’d seen plenty of sharps posting UNLV. Colby agreed, which was funny coming from the man Ryan says loves bad football. Before picking against them, he read off their three-touchdown win over Northern Illinois with real affection: one pass attempt, zero completions, 439 rushing yards.

Sean wanted none of it. His case was the schedule and the altitude. UNLV comes off a physical game against North Dakota State in its own dome, then has to go up to 6,621 feet and get ready for an offense Sean says you can’t prepare for off a game like that. He added that Air Force is second in the country in time of possession, good on third down, and just ahead of Notre Dame as the offense that allows the least havoc, while UNLV can get sloppy with penalties. His prediction was a Rebels team gassed by the second half.

Colby’s answer was the quarterback. His whole Air Force handicap this year rested on the starter, and the Falcons lost him for the season. He also pointed to Wyoming, a rivalry game, waiting next on the Air Force schedule. Ryan backed him up, pointing to Georgia Tech’s years running the triple option: the downgrade from the starter is always bigger than you’d think. He finished with a bit of trivia for Colby, aimed at all the altitude talk. UNLV’s home field sits at about 2,030 feet, so the Rebels are not walking in from sea level.
