Nobody loved either side at first. Laying 6.5 with Bryce Underwood felt bad, and so did backing a Penn State team where, as one of the guys put it, the Matt Campbell magic hasn’t really fit in Happy Valley yet. Both new coaching hires have left something to be desired so far.

Colby flipped that around. Campbell as a heavy underdog is exactly when he wants in, and he went as far as calling for Penn State to win outright and grabbing the money line.

The rest of the case was about quarterbacks and coaching history. If you’re betting on a team to bounce back, the argument went, bet the one whose quarterback you trust, and that is not Michigan’s. Underwood drew a Cam Ward comparison: a first year where everyone hunts for positives, then a second year where the footwork gets worse and the decisions get uglier. The guys also carried over an old habit from Kyle Whittingham’s previous stop, which is not laying points with his teams in a spot like this.

It ended with Colby calling the Penn State quarterback “basically Eli Manning,” meant as an insult, and a long defense of Eli’s college numbers from the other side of the desk. Penn State is the pick either way.
