MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – May 9

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Boston Red Sox

First Pitch – 4:10 pm EST
Fenway Park – Boston, MA
Broadcast – MLB TV

Is there anything we’ve loved this season as much as a Red Sox NRFI play? The squad is now 39 games into the season and have scored just nine first inning runs all year. That’s an ugly look that puts them in 29th place in the majors. Now they face a tough customer in Nick Martinez, who has been lights out for the Rays. He’s sporting a 1.71 ERA on the season and has allowed just two earned runs in the last 20.0 innings that he’s thrown. He should be able to keep the Red Sox quiet for at least three outs on Saturday.

On the flip side of things, the Red Sox are a great NRFI team because of all the arms that they employ. Payton Tolle happens to be the arm for them to kick off the weekend and he’s coming off of one of the very best starts of his life. He went 7.0 innings last time out and kept the Tigers scoreless. He also managed to pick up eight strikeouts in the process. The first inning should be an easy one for him as he faces Tampa Bay. They rank 24th in the majors in first inning scoring.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 9: No (TBD)

New York Yankees vs. Milwaukee Brewers

First Pitch – 7:10 pm EST
American Family Field – Milwaukee, WI
Broadcast – MLB TV

We hit on an NRFI with two of the best offenses on Friday and we’re daring to do so again. Sure, the Yankees rank 2nd in both run scoring and first inning run scoring. Sure, the Brewers rank 6th in each of those categories as well. Nevertheless, we see the pitching matchup that kicks off the weekend and we’re still on this spot on Saturday.

First to the bump will be Kyle Harrison. He has a 2.12 ERA on the year and has fanned 35 guys in just 29.2 innings. Not only that, but he has given up just one run over his last two starts while striking out 17 in 12.0 innings. He should be able to work his way through the top of the first. He’ll be followed up with Cy Young hopeful, Cam Schlittler. He’s allowed just two earned runs in his last 25.2 innings pitched. He could face an All-Star team right now and I’d still be in on the NRFI.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 9: No (-140)
