MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – May 2

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Minnesota Twins

First Pitch – 2:10 pm EST
Target Field – Minneapolis, MN
Broadcast – MLB TV

We’ll kick off our NRFI plays at Target Field on Saturday. The Twins send Connor Prielipp to the bump for his third career start. He’s looked mostly sharp in the first two, going 9.0 total innings and giving up just four earned runs. A lot of those have come late in the game with his ERA across the first three innings sitting at 1.50. He should be able to reduce that further against a Blue Jays team that has not been good with the bats. Their 4.03 runs per game has them ranked 24th in the majors.

The bottom of the first should be even less of a sweat. While the Twins can hit a bit, they are far from being the class of the league in those categories. Plus, they have to deal with Dylan Cease on the hill. He’s been his usual self this year with huge strikeout stuff. He sits in the top five of the league with 49 strikeouts and that’s having thrown just 31.1 innings. His 2.87 ERA certainly doesn’t hurt the confidence in this one either, which is why we’ll ride with a clean first frame.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 2: No (-135)

Milwaukee Brewers vs. Washington Nationals

First Pitch – 4:05 pm EST
Nationals Park – Washington, DC
Broadcast – Apple TV

Heading to our nation’s capital, I love the NRFI for this one. The Nationals send out one of their best surprises this year – Foster Griffin. He is a perfect 3-0 with a 2.87 ERA on the year. Plus, he’s coming off of his best outing so far. Last time out, he threw 7.0 scoreless innings against the White Sox and fanned eight in the process. Although Milwaukee is an above average offense, they do sit right around the league average when it comes to first inning scoring.

The Nationals have been one of the best hitting teams in the league this season, but we’re going to put our NRFI trust in lefty Kyle Harrison. He, too, is coming off his best outing of the year. He threw 6.0 innings against the Pirates and stuck out 12 batters. That lowered his season ERA to 2.28. Plus, when he faced the Nationals earlier this year, he kept them scoreless through the first four innings. He should be able to do that again here.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 2: No (-150)
