Former champ Jamahal Hill looks to make it back to the title picture. Standing in his way is Khalil Rountree Jr. who would like to punch his ticket for another title shot. Prelim Pick of the Week: UFC Baku
UFC Heavyweight Fight: Hamdy Abdelwahab vs Mohammed Usman
Start Time: Saturday (6/21) 12:00pm EST (ESPN+)
One of my favorite plays on the early part of this card is in the heavyweight opener.
Hamdy Abdelwahab hasn’t exactly lit the world on fire during his UFC stint. The Egyptian heavyweight has won both of his fights by split decision. However, the one thing that has looked good in his fights is his wrestling. He’s hit four of his five takedown attempts so far. Even though he should be shooting more than that, he still has that advantage to lean on.
Additionally, he’s got a solid matchup in Usman, who has had some issues with being taken down in the past. If Abdelwahab is able to get just a pair of takedowns, he should cruise to a decision here – even if it is a close one.
